As Union Pacific did a half-decade ago and Norfolk Southern started recently, CSX plans to create a fleet of heritage locomotives totaling 15 units honoring a wide variety of predecessor roads.
The locomotives will be ES44ACs from an upcoming order from GE. The railroad's Huntingtion, W Va., shop will paint eight, while the Waycross, Ga., shop will handle seven heritage units.

Like NS, CSX plans to recreate the paint schemes as accurately as possible. By contrast, UP used the old railroads' logos and colors, but created new interpretations on the old liveries.
