OK, now let's see who has his own photos of all eighteen. Can't scan 'em or post 'em (severe techno-challenged), but I have slides of thirteen of the eighteen.

Apparently I've heard NS may drop the New Haven one in favor of one painted in the paint scheme of the original Norfolk Southern Railway.

I wonder if there is some legal issues behind the decision to do these locomotives. IIRC wasn't that part of the reason UP did their locomotives in the past schemes?

I wonder how the ex-Conrail company locomotives would fit into the plans since they were split between CSX and NS.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conrail

CR was broken into percents. CSX got 42% and NS got 58%, but they have the same voting interest. Hense, Conrail Shared Assets (ie Lincoln Secondary, Downtown Detroit trackage, and the Conrail Bridge). CSX and NS split the locomotives as well. NS got more than CSX did thats why they had the larger Conrail painted fleet than CSX ever did.

UP did it because in order to inforce the licencing agreement they had to have something on the railroad painted for that railroad, hence the heratige units. As far as I know UP is the only ones to inforce it that strictly. BNSF and NS and CSX has agreements, but dont get as agressive about it. NS had been talking about this for a long time, more so to show pride and acknowlage there past, where UP uses it as a ploy.

Doesn't NS have a number of units painted in NS but have various heritage reporting marks? I was told this was to keep hold of the license for them.

The other Question related to the RDG one, is: What NYC paint scheme are we going to get? Lightning Stripe or Cigar Band?

I believe if there is any units left with the old reporting marks, that had to do more with the leases on the units then anything else.

Good question on the NYC I was going to ask the same thing, but only about gray lightning stripe or black, forgot about the cigar ban.

NS via Trains Mag, says the new units will NOT use specal numbers, just what ever numbers the unit is assigned.

The Erie will not be the Black and yellow shown on the PA photo - it has been said it will be the two tone green passenger scheme.
The LV will not be what is shown on the GP38-2's.
The RDG will be like the SD45's

I find that extremely hard to believe.

yeah
List of reporting marks
AGS - Alabama Great Southern Railroad
CG sometimes CofG[citation needed] - Central of Georgia Railway
CNTP - Cincinnati, New Orleans and Texas Pacific Railway (CNO&TP)
CR - Conrail
GANO - Georgia Northern Railway
NKP - Nickel Plate Road
PRR - Pennsylvania Lines LLC
NS - Norfolk Southern
NW - Norfolk and Western Railway
SOU - Southern Railway
TAG - Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia Railway
VGN - Virginian Railway
WAB - Wabash Railroad

from wikipedia

these are what they could have. I have seen NW SOU CR and CNTP all on engines; there are possibably more engines with different reporting marks out there. many cars still hold old reporting marks too.

Probably more for tax/accounting purposes than anything. Like early CSX units that had B&O & C&O sublettering until the B&O was finally "merged" into the C&O in the late 1980's. Back to the NS usage, I've seen pictures of NS units that had sublettering for the bank/financial institutions that held the paper for the units as well.

I would guess then more like the PA's and early red units then.

I've heard that it won't be the snowbird scheme that the C628's had either (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=2167) which is too bad. Perhaps the gray like the C420's had instead?
http://berwickrailfan.webs.com/locomotives/LV414A.jpg

The LV had an "identity problem" in the opposite direction :D

Using a light colored scheme will look nasty after a few weeks of coal service, which is where NS likes to keep the AC units they currently have. Im sure they will make it around the system for PR spots and special events.

Compleatly not real. This was done by the person that makes all the locomotive magnets you see. It was done way long before NS thought about this. In fact you can tell its wrong, because NS has said the PRR unit will be done in brown, not green like the poster. None of these are the paint jobs.
