The 8954 is still hanging around? I thought the only 45-2 was the 8889.

8889 is actually an SD40-2, although it retains its former SD45-2 body.

8889 is an SD40-2. Had its 20-cyl 645 replaced with a 16-cyl 645. Same goes for 8886...SD45-2 frame/hood, but technically an SD40-2

And yes, 8954 is still around. Lithonia, GA (as of yesterday) to be exact.

Way to go Y@ You speak, and then one gets repainted.

5970 and 6447 have been repainted.

Also of note, 7679 C40-8W (only the 3rd original CSX C40-8W to be repainted) and 4287 GP39 have been repainted.

And ANOTHER B40-8 in CR paint meets the paint booth. CSX 5978 this time. Also the mother/slug set that was in the Plymouth area last winter has been painted. CSX 6436 and CSX 2207. With the painting of CSX 6436, this leaves only two units left painted in the "CSX Gray/YN" scheme (stealth gray with yellow ends and side sill) - SD40-2's 8089 and 8146.

Is the 8954 the last SD45-2 in service on a Class I or does BNSF still have some active ones?

Currently all of BNSF's are in storage.

Also were not all the BNSF just rebuilt to 40-2 standards. Or have they not compleated all of them.

matt i don't think they ever started that project... not 100% sure though.

BNSF SD45-2's are being rebuilt into SD40-2R's. I believe there are 8 of them. Originally numbered in the 7950-7957 series, but they seem to be getting renumbered into the 1571-series.

RDSLUG 2202 (CSX Gray/YNp) has been repainted, along with it's mother, 6940 (YN2).
