Flash: Quantaray PZ-1

Unread post by Mr. Tops »

I guess I'll just put this in the railfanning info forum. I just bought a new flash for my Digital Rebel. Went to Ritz Camera and found the Quantaray PZ-1 for $139. Not a bad price for a flash! D@m^ that thing is bright. I'm almost reluctant to use it...I don't want to burn anyone's eyeballs.

I did a quick unofficial test at North Yard in Muskegon tonight. Took 2 5 second exposures, one with the flash and one without the flash, just to see how much it will actually help. The distance was about 50 feet between the flash and the subject.

Here's the shot without the flash:

I'd recommend this flash for anyone looking for one. It's not too expensive, and does a nice job for what you'll need it for!

Also check out these shots I took with it...

This is pretty much the same shot as the test pictures, but with GR 3839 streaking through. This one was taken at a distance of approx. 100 feet.

And lastly, this one was taken at approx. 150-200 feet away.
