CSX Garrett Sub railfan page - My Contribution

Unread post by Mr. Tops »

Funny you started this forum Zack, I've been working on a CSX Garrett Sub railfan page for a few weeks now. I just finished it but haven't linked it up to the site yet. I'll still be doing tweaking and whatnot. Let me know what you think, and if you have anything to add or any corrections, then by all means let me know! Thanks!

Hey Mr. Tops, thanks for posting both the page and the link. I hadn't realized that CSX and NS paralleled that closely through the Pine Jct. area over by Gary, Indiana (should have, but didn't). Question for you (or anyone else) though: Last night my friend and I were over in Marquette Park, but heading back to US20 for the run back here (Mishawaka- it was part of a dirty trick my friend was playing on his sister) and we were stopped for a WB CSX intermodal train- led by CSX 652 (or 625, its all blurry in the picture I got) and CSX 7xxx (I think). This was the middle line, I think, of the three between the lake and the highway. If I remember right, the NS line had a coal train sitting on it, on a bridge over the road. Then after we got stopped for the intermodal, when we crossed the next track east, there was another set of CSX locomotives that appeared to be sitting, possibly waiting for a signal. If you're familar with the area, there's a McDonalds about a block beyond these crossings, and a South Shore depot (south, I think- its across the street from the McDonalds) nearby. My question is, which line was the CSX line? Is it possible that both trains were CSX, or is it more likely that the second set of locos I saw were on a train of one of the other two roads? Thanks, and sorry for the rather long questions...

Here is what I have.

#1 First, as of sometime last year, (I dont rember exactly when) and per
General Bulletin #300, the former Great lakes div. Garrett sub, is now
the Chicago Div. from Deshler on.

#2 Garrett Sub is from East Deshler BI 62.1 to Willow Creek BI 236.9
Barr Sub is from Willow Creek BI 236.6 to (for the purpous of
this article you are making) Clark Jct. DC 0.4.

#3 I will double check this in the computer at work, but I believe, that
Garrett crews, only work to Chicago, Willard, and Toledo. Trains
comming from Cincy, are Lima crews. Trains comming from
Columbus, are Columbus crews. As far as I know, there is no
Cleveland crews to Garrett.

#4 SC Dispatcher, controls from East Deshler, to Willow Creek.
From East Deshler, to Albion, is CH 84 84, from Albion, to Willow
Creek, is CH 12 12. RA Dispatcher, controls from Willow Creek to
Clark Jct. on CH 14 14.

#5 Last I knew, altough I am not sure how much service, that they
provide, but some one had bought the Wabash Ind Track, in

Garrett Crews

Unread post by Mr. Tops »

Matt, thanks for the info. A buddy of mine is a conductor out of Garrett and has been ALL over. He's been everywhere I listed. Those guys down there only work a couple days a week! It's crazy. He has an apartment in Angola, but still lives with his family in Muskegon. He comes home for days on end, sometimes almost a whole week! When he comes home, he's usually around 25 out, sometimes 24 hrs later he'll only be 24 out. Doesn't sound too bad to me! Then there are the horror stories of being on the road atleast 12 hrs/day 7 days/week...lol

from http://www.midwestrailfan.com/garrettsub

"RM Dispatcher: 160.290 (AAR Channel 12) "

It is still 84 161.370, same as before the changeover.

Also, Q160 has not run since the beginning of March. Q160 traffic has since been put on Q110.

Q324 has not run for a while, accroding to http://www.railroadfan.com/phpbb/viewto ... 4&start=20 now that traffic runs through Michigan.

Q324

Unread post by MSchwiebert »

Just to update, Q324 has apparently returned to it's Garrett-Deshler-Toledo routing as I have seen it in Perrysburg a few times over the last week or so.

I've seen Q324 on several occasions the past couple weeks. It usually goes through Deshler in the morning.
