Today 4 retired road slugs passed through Deshler on their way to LTEX. these were retired in April 24. however, one possible mistake on the bullsheet shows 2275 being retired with this group, and 2274 being active yet. 2274 however was one of the 4 going east this morning to larrys. so my wonder is, is 2275 still active and was this a simple mistake we can get corrected on the bullsheet?
Thank you for the sluggy update. Do you happen to have the road numbers of all slugs in this consist heading for LTEX?

Is this on the AZA line to/from Bradenton?

Ruskin is between Tampa and Bradenton on US 41.

The train involved was L700 returning from Bradenton.

The four road slugs passing through Deshler recently other than 2274 were 2336,2340 and 2358 as I was told but not see them. 60 road slugs total will be heading to LTEX within the next month. I still show 2275 still on roster but not active. Will appreciate future sightings of these units seen on any rail cam.

Just out of curiosity, are there any GP30 slugs in that group? Or any active

13 of the 60 has GP30 car bodies. All had been in storage for quite awhile. One of the GP30 car body units, 2208 was seen on the Deshler cam this afternoon enroute to LTEX

All of the older 7600-7900 & 9000 series GE units that had been reactivated a few years ago after years in storage, have now been ordered back into storage, perhaps forever as most of these are nearing 30 years old. Only a few currently show still working, but most all of these show "off line" to other railroads and will be stored after their arrival back. This also includes all ten of the rebuilt CW40-8M units in the 7700 & 7800 number series that GE Erie rebuilt for CSX a few years ago. Many of the units from this group never got reactivated after they were first put into storage.
What site or source are you pulling this from... Im trying to do some separate research but i would like to know what people use to get info, Are yall using a CSX Domain like YES?

Also worth noting that with the recent coming and going of CSX 5201 on M326/327 last month that got me looking and thinking. CSX's first Gevos will be turning 20 years old this year with the arrival of the first of the 5200 series GE's in mid-2005. Wonder if and when we should start seeing some of these older DC models cycled through the shops for a rebuild. I would also think that with the current trend of things, these units would also get the DC to AC treatment.

Anyone know why CSX hasn't bothered to rebuild their small Dash 9 fleet into AC units much like how NS and other roads have done with their DC powered GE's?

Is there any case to be made for rebuilding older EMD's into AC power; could it even be done? If you have an SD70MAC being rebuilt why can't an SD40 get the same treatment electrically?

I have a little nickname for those units, Dash 8.5's. That is because they are Dash 8 locomotives (same trucks, cab setup, etc), but with Dash 9 tech added later on. Look at a photo of a Dash 8 and a CSX Dash 9, and look at the trucks. They use the same trucks as a Dash 8 (all other Dash 9's built use the GE Hi-Ad). The cabs are identical to the Dash 8's.

Now you could argue that the ex ATSF Dash 9's on the BNSF side have the same cab, but there are subtle differences with those compared to the CSX Dash 9's that came with the evolution of the series.

The reason why they'll probably never get rebuilt is because of their age, and the fact that CSX already tried a rebuild program with the Dash 8's, which they classified as C40-8WM (I think that's what they were designated as) but that crashed and burned, when CSX pulled the Dash 8's out of storage back in 2021, those rebuilds (if I remember correctly) never even left storage. They were practically brand new when they were put away.

As for the DC gevo's, I have heard rumors that CSX sent one of them over to wabtec in Erie for them to play around with and see what could be done. The problem I've heard is that gevo's, because of the emissions tech they have, would be a lot more complicated to rebuild than Dash 9 or AC44.

On the contrary, a few of those CM40s were indeed pulled out of storage in 2021. In fact, there's a few running on the former Pan Am trackage as of this year.

In other news, CSXT 4720 finally moved from Waycross on L795 earlier today.

Glad to see the ES40DCs getting paint. Whatever paint GE was using circa 2005-2006 did not age well.
