"Last" BCOL "Cowl" #4609 done?

Unread post by Robertrains »

Well, it seems that BCOL C40-8M "Cowl" #4609 is now done! Final "Nail in the Coffin" for a nice locomotive!!!! It left British Columbia where it worked its last year (approx.) of life! Now it is "Dead" and on the way to Homewood, IL! Maybe it won't be saved!!!!! πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

Post on "Heritage Units" of BCOL 4609 heading east to Homewood at Jarrow, Alberta, November 25, 2024 @ 5:59 p.m. (reported by Daylen):

Since I cannot "Quote" locked topics, the below posts are from when BCOL 4609 passed (final time) near me in January 2023 which I totally missed (each post dated):

By Mount Clemens depot at @14:00. You could hear the clock ticking on 4609 as it went by.

Looks like L533N might be working MC after it made a pick up at East Yard earlier, and a swap with L515.

You do realize that your post is going to throw a particular railfan into a complete tizzy. Be prepared. Also, any news on Yuengleng coming into Michigan yet? I'm waitin...

Well, now that is proof BCOL 4609 is done with on CN!!!! CSTX9040, where did you get the info? :?: So, it is not going for "Long Term Storage" in Winnipeg, Manitoba? :?: This is much better than "Scrap" of course! But, where will it go now to be used? :?:

Well πŸ’© POOP!!!! πŸ’© Figures the "Last" active BCOL C40-8M "Cowl" would be sold to a :( :( "Scrapper!" :( :( It could still be "Leased" by JLCX too, right? The one donated engine, BCOL 4618, went to Alberta Railway Museum in September 2023! That one is in CN paint unfortunately! I hope it will be restored to BCOL colors someday! I am glad to have seen, photographed, and videoed "Cowls" over the years! Especially leading trains!

the company that owns the JLCX marks is the same company that's been scrapping CN units in Chicago Heights for several years now. not a good sign at all.

OK, BCOL 4609 will be at Chicago Heights soon if it is to be "Scrapped!!!!" :( It's too bad the last BCOL "Cowl" is destined for its fate!   There are posts from January 5, 2025 of it coming through Chicago area! :( Post on "Heritage Units" of BCOL 4609 heading south to Griffith, Indiana, at West Chicago, IL, January 5, 2025 @ 12:01 a.m. (reported by Nebula905) describes "2nd of 2, farewell 4609" and lastly reported (by Bnsfrailroadfan) heading east at Griffith on its way to Gary, IN, January 5, 2025 @ 3:53 a.m.:

OK, maybe BCOL 4609 was not heading to Chicago Heights for "Scrap" after all!!!!! What about the JLCX marks? Though one cannot take "Heritage Units" as always accurate, a post yesterday (Jan. 7 by betubros), 1:15 a.m. heading south at Atoka, TN, mentions "Trailing 3rd, heading for storage!" This is better!!!! Maybe it will go to the same place where "Blue" IC C40-8W #2466 and CN C40-8s went for storage! Hopefully there will come a time this genuine "Cowl" will be "Re-activated" or donated to a museum!!!!

OK, BCOL "Cowl" C40-8M #4609 went to Louisiana for storage! Man, what will the future bring for this engine and other Dash 8s now stored in Louisiana?
"Heritage Units" poster, Gulf Coast Trainspotter, posted on January 9, 2025, 10:53 p.m. at Metairie, Louisiana "Going into Mays Yard to be stored long term."
