Working on confirmation, but this lines up with numerous recent reports and sightings.

This would remove 5 (a quarter) of the remaining YN2 SD40-2s, as well as the last YN1 and CR units from the roster.

C&NW Dash 9's were not donated. Rumor is just that, a rumor.

And this addition to the SD40-2 sale to NRE:
Three additional CSX SD40-2s were part of the same auction -- CSX 8321 and 8810 went to IBCX, and 8113 was not sold as it did not get any bids

Did some photo research on this unit, didn't know it or anything wore "C&O" on its long hood until 2008! Very neat

How it escaped the paint booth for so long remains a mystery.

Relegated to work train service. That's why it didn't get painted. Back then work train service was the last stop before retirement.

4617 was caught leading Q327 up here in Detroit right after it's repaint in 2008, I forgot where I had seen the photo. The railfan rumor around was that Waycross painted 4617 in "retaliation" for Huntington painting CSX/SBD 2667 (which spent much of it's end of SBD paint life here on Plymouth locals). Glad it is going to a good home and will probably see a fresh coat of C&O blue soon.

Yeah, the few of us who fanned Plymouth back in the "busy days" before the traffic turned to crap in 2008/2009, myself, Racer, CAT345, we got to see some of the last of the cool stuff out here in operation.

The SBD painted unit was assigned to D739 for the longest time. This was back when D739 was still based out of Wixom right before and after the Ford Wixom Assembly Plant closed. I remember catching that locomotive setting off cars to the MAL in Wixom in the evening, then making a run-around in Lincoln Yard to shove lumber cars to Iverson Lumber in Milford. 739 often used a Chessie caboose for the shove moves to Milford and that same bay window caboose is sitting in the back of Lincoln Yard where Transflo was and is rotting away as we speak. Shortly after shoving through Wixom, I would go to Walled Lake and catch the dinner train running on the MAL towards the CSX interchange. Was such a good time period, all of that is gone and I miss it. Very early 2011 was the beginning of the decline in trains that was seen through Plymouth in the late 2000s.

Regarding 4617, it came up on a GR-destined ballast train back in summer of 2008, but was cut off just south of Plymouth and never made it north of Wayne, in C&O paint at least.

Some major news:

First, the C40-8s going to LTEX are not sold to LTEX. They're going there for storage. We can confirm, that the entire former C40-8 fleet has been sold back to GE. They'll likely be remanufactured and resold, though to whom is obviously a good question.

Meanwhile, get ready for CSX to enter the DC to AC rebuild era. A batch of C40-8Ws have been shipped to Erie, for conversion. Not sure what they'll be called yet (AC44AM, perhaps?), but chances are they'll be a lot like the NS conversions.

Full monthly update coming in the next couple days.
