You obviously don't get how this works. This happens all the time. People claim repaint, and we ask for a photo. If they have one, great: we make the changes. If not, it is put on Bob's watch list and he actually will spend time looking in his usual places for it. No, this does not include a Google search.

There are a few people, it is worth noting, who we trust and will make the changes without an image. But in general, it requires an image. Nothing against DT&I here. It isn't a "downgrade" for those we don't just take for their word...it is an upgrade from requiring photo proof.

It is all in the name of accuracy.
Actually it should include a google search...

DT&I wrote:CSX 8444 has been repainted from YN2 to YN3B, looks to be very recent.
CSX 8444 arrived in Huntington for work and paint in January so no photo needed for this one. If its been sighted in YN3b, its good enough. Photo from somebody will appear eventually. We have though, on several occasions, gotten YN3b repaint sighting reports which turned out to be bogus, only because the number given was a typo, and thus why, if something shows up that we did not know had been in Huntington recently, we usually wait for a photo before confirming it on our paint list, and, why MQT3001 inquired.

Thanks for adding me! This is a great forum with very good CSX roster information. About the ex-NS SD40-2s, they are actually SD40-2R's that were rebuilt by Conrail in 1993, so should be more reliable than the SD80MAC's were! I wonder if they will go right into service, or will be part of the SD40-3 program? Speaking of that, I found a list, not sure of its accuracy, of units next for rebuilding. Interestingly it mentions the 2 ex-CR SD38's, the 8318 & the 8865, plus quite a few ex-Conrail units:
Possible SD40-3 rebuilds:
2461,2463 (former CR SD38)
8010,30,31,32,50,72,88
8103,10,25,33,5862,98
8202,09,11
8318,21,42,49,62,94
8800,3,9,10,24,26,27,34,38,41,43,52,60,62,65,68,75,76,88

Would love to hear if anyone can verify, Thanks!

Welcome to the board!

Not sure about your list. Some of the lower numbers are what has been confirmed to be gone.

As for the dash-3s. So far, not a single 8800 has been rebuilt, or sent for rebuilding...ever. These are mostly rebuild SD40s, with older equipment including the truck assemblies. All the rebuilds past and future have been taken from the 8000, 8100 and 8200 series. Until somebody photographs an 8800 in a move heading to Boise or E St Louis for rebuild, don't expect the 8800s to become Dash 3s.

Along the same line, these 12 "new" SD40-2s are rebuild SD40 cores as well, and are being added to the 8800s where they now leave off. I suspect, being virtually identical, they won't be taken for rebuild. Then again, nothing is certain in railroading until it happens.

Not sure where you are getting this list, but 8318 and 8865 are SD40-2s, not SD38s. 8318 is also not a former Conrail unit.

I'm pretty sure it is supposed to read "CR SD38s", and then seperatly list the other units. As in, he wasn't trying to say they were all CR units. The CR was only for the SD38s.

I wonder about the 8800's purely for their cab signals. Some of the ex-CR GP38's were converted, but looks like none of the ex-CR GP40's were yet.
Also, about the 300 unit order, will it be all for ES44AC's or a different tier 4 model? Thanks!

2461 & 2463 are the SD38s. I'm aware only the 8800s are ex-CR, not the others.

They will be ES44AHs, the first group will be the current Tier 3 version and the later ones will be the new Tier 4 version. I don't know if CSX will differentiate between the two.

Based on previous versions (I think they have Tier 2 and 3), I don't think so. What I have been told is 75 Tier 3, the rest Tier 4, due by the end of next year.

I do believe the biggest hurdle for the 8800s are their trucks, but don't quote me on that!

Dang no one can take a joke. Apparently it went way wrong... I'm starting to not feel very wanted here, as if I ever have been. Most of my posts are very misunderstood and I know why that's where I am now, but I wish people could take a step back and ask for clarification before they just jump in and attack me.

Perhaps you should stop trying to make jokes no one will get. Jokes and sarcasm are very hard to interpret on the internet.

I agree with SD80. Until people get to know you better avoid joking around.

I guess I will try to redeem myself on here, SD50-2 8585 looks to be in fresh YN3B paint. Not sure what it was prior, but I saw it on a Youtube video and I looked back to see if it had been reported and I didn't find anything. If you need the link for the video as proof I can post it.

Linky please.

In the future, if you have a link, you should by default include it in your report.

Well I was on my phone this morning and I didn't want to have to go through the hassle of trying to copy and paste the link that way.

Go to 5:25 and that's when the 8585 first comes into view. Paint looks very crisp, and the video was shot in January.

Oh hey now that I put two and two together, you do some great work. Yeah I saw the 8585 and I didn't recall that one being reported on a repaint so I thought I would share it.
