Re: Chessie System Extended Vision Caboose in St. Clair
(Sorry about the crappy grainy quality) Thanks for taking the time to put up pictures, I wish more people did. But I really can't make anything out. Looks like you are using one of those red plastic cameras that hang on a peg at the grocery store checkout lane. Try finding an old discarded cell pho...

Re: Found a lonely mile marker near TC
What kind of locations did they put in the land line markers? Where they everywhere, or maybe just locations where a land dispute was possible. I need an idea where to look for these.

Re: Michigan Shortlines July 2014
Came thru Kalkaska about 1600, the lights and bells on the GLC at M-72 were running continuously even though no train in sight. At least all the traffic was stopping and taking a good look before crossing.

Re: Lost Railroad Town Kalkaska Area
Interesting comments Todd. I've been to the spot where I thought was the River Branch JCT. but I think it was North of Kalava . It was quite some time ago, I'll have to retrace my steps. It was just an intersection of two or three dirt roads, not much of a raised grade in that area.

Something was on the rails in TC. Judging by the sand at the grade crossings it doesn't look today fresh, more like yesterday.

If your timing is right, there are picnic tables at the train station you can sit 10 ft from the track and watch them use the passing siding. Best seat in town.Pie39 wrote: I'll be in Frankfort next week and I really want to see GLC in TC,

Re: Found a lonely mile marker near TC
Anyway, happy hunting - but please, leave the artifacts in their place so others can enjoy too. I hear ya, note my post indicates these are more interesting in their original environment rather than someones garage. I still need to ask what is the difference of a mile marker vs a land line monument?

Re: Lost Railroad Town Kalkaska Area
Could you possibly be thinking of Stratford in northeastern Missaukee County? I had some time to go down there and look around. It is indeed Stratford that I had once seen many years ago. The town signage is still in place and well maintained. I came in from Fletcher Rd. Kalkaska Co. that turns int...

Re: Derailment on the GLC at 127
That is a neat crossing, but not spectacular track! Hopefully they derailed away from the crossing and the train can be pulled off! GLC passes under the 127 freeway. I don't think it would close the freeway unless some overzealous fire dept. enjoyed doing that. http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h...

There is a rumor of a new customer loading something wood related. Perhaps at Mesick.[/quote]
There are no rails in Mesick anymore. They stop about 4 miles South of there, unless this is what you meant by "Mesick"

Re: Found a lonely mile marker near TC
last time I rode on the path I noticed it had disappeared. I'm guessing someone has it in their garage now. Yea, too bad. I think these artifacts are way more interesting in their original habitat. Looses something when it end up in a garage or back yard. I hope this one stays there many more years...
