Re: IORY Updates
The transload with the plastic pellet hoppers is the old NYC ramp where the loaded the old International Scouts and the pick up truck the plant built and then later actual semis. Supposedly going to unload them there.

Re: IORY Updates
Scrap for Northstar has been coming out of Cincy in mostly CSX gons and some old DEEX(?) coal gons. Outbound coil steel has really picked up the last year or so from Fulton County that goes to Cincy and CSX, lots of NOKl and WKRX coil cars and NOKL gons with the coils exposed. Somehow they are getti...

Hyumataki already ships out scrap paper from Batavia in some of the boxcars that haul in the inbound paperrolls.
They derailed on the bridge at Clare. Should be a couple of days before they get the track repaired

Re: DT&I/GT traffic 1980/1 vs 1985ish?
The creation of NS didn't really effect the DT&I/GT. If anything it might have increased traffic some. Do yourself a favor and buy the DT&I-GT 9 DVD set. You'll see plenty of trains with NS power. They might have lost traffic when CSX was created like the coal trains for Detroit coming off the L&N. ...

Re: Greene Interlocking Xenia
There's still an old concrete post where the tower stood. If you turn off of US 68 onto Miami Ave there's a retaining wall that follows along to the left of you and once it ends you'll see where it was. The good B&O Vol 3 Toledo Div book has a couple of good pics of the tower with B&O trains passing...

Re: NS Peavine talk
The supposed "new" industry around Mt Orab is a company that wants to ship packaged wood pellets like you find at Tractor Supply, Lowes or whatever for wood burning stoves. Would be loaded into boxcars. NS did some tie work down around Clare right before or after CCET got the line. Ties and some bal...

Rencomb tower closed mid 1985 I was told.
Why the dumb comments about the I&O, you can't compare the two. That would be like comparing the Precinct at Columbia and Delta with I don't know maybe White Castle..?

Re: Lagonda diamond at Springfield Ohio
Mon-Fri the Springfield local a couple of times a day and then usually the WCH B or LSL road trains in the afternoons as they meet to swap trains. Grain trains on the old NYC to Mechanicsburg have become very seldom with low grain prices and Heritage building a better location on CSX at Marysville.

Re: Ford Expanding Flat Rock -- CN Implications?
Go ahead and think a change in President lead this to happen.....
Fusion and Mustang sales both have dropped significantly so Flat Rock has more than enough capacity for whatever hybrid models that have in mind.
Don't forget CSX gets a ton of the Flat Rock production trucked to New Boston.

Re: N&W reach Columbus?
Back in the 1950s the PRR owned a majority owner of both the DT&I and N&W. PRR looked into having the N&W buy the PRR Morrow Secondary branch from where it crossed the N&W at Circleville west to Washington CH and then buying the DT&I. It obviously didn't happen and instead PRR sold the Sandusky bran...

Re: NS Peavine talk
I assume SORTA owns the old Rencomb tower when they purchased the right of way from Oasis (basically where the Boat House is out to Valley where the Peavine connects. The I&O owns the old eastbound main (current active track) i.e. rails, ties and ballast and has the right to acquire the out of servi...

Re: Sharonville Yard Question
You're welcome. One of the major issues with it was as a hump yard and obviously still to this day is the Sharon Rd crossing. It's 70ish car lengths from the pullout tracks to the crossing. Doubling up a train off another track and you're blocking Sharon Ave for awhile. Do yourself a favor and buy a...

Re: Sharonville Yard Question
Penn Central had a make a decision which yard to improve and keep between Sharonville and the old PRR manual rider yard at Undercliff. Both were squeezed into their locations and maxed out on capacity. Sharonville was the best of the 2 and also on the major main for PC in the area. PC was also build...

Re: NS Peavine talk
Kibler Lumber just east of Mt Orab should still be in business. They were earlier this year and Google shows they should have been open today. I don't think they've gotten a car in 20 plus years or more. I was thinking about what customers were still using rail when NS rerouted 217/218 and shut the ...

Re: Springfield Abandonments
The abandoned signals at Warder St are the old NYC line. The east-west line is NS. The I&O runs north-south thru town on the old DT&I. Plus the tracks you saw at Warder St are the I&O former NYC branch out to Mechanicsburg. The line that runs parallel to US 68 is the old Erie Dayton Branch and now t...

I assume you are talking about what's the current Simon Kenton Trail? If so that's the old NYC Bellefontaine Branch. It was purchased by the WESTCO port authority from Conrail along with the Erie Dayton Branch Jan 1, 1994. Conrail didn't use the Erie from Maitland to Glen Echo and instead used the N...
