Re: CSX road crossings in Plymouth
We all know CSX will do whatever CSX wants to do, but it might just work. Lincoln Charter Township made a similar posting to Facebook a few months ago, with the crossing ID numbers and the complaint link to CSX. Starting next week, three of the worst crossings are being replaced. Probably just a coi...

Re: CSX Location Updates - August 2021
Four 4400-hp motors is the minimum for coal trains, typically. That gets them over at walking speed. Anything less and they will stall. So the next big question is why would UP send three motors when two are good enough on the flat and four are needed on the hill. CSX is not going to split the help...

Transit time West Olive to PRB?
What is the approximate travel time for coal trains between West Olive and the Powder River Basin?
I’m curious because we just had the E804 go west with empties to be loaded on the UP and I am wondering when we will see UP loads returning.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - July 2021
P371 just passed Glenlord Rd in Stevensville.
In round numbers, he was 40 minutes late at Holland and an hour late at Bangor and St Joe.
Not sure what got him. Haven’t been listening to scanner. Assuming some combination of the track work and maybe the storm that blew through just after 7am.

Coal empties west at Glenlord Rd. in Stevensville.
With Tom on vacation (?), we all have to work a little harder. He claims to be retired Amtrak signal department. But with his remote surveillance skills, I suspect he is ex-CIA and the Amtrak thing is just a cover.

Re: MOW on CSX Grand Rapids area
Heard the local section crew talking on the radio while doing some tamping in the Stevensville area today. They were skipping several areas “because we might as well do them when they do the crossings.” Sounded like several crossings will be replaced. Maiden Lane was the only one they mentioned by n...

Tamper and regulator working north (RR East) of Glenlord Rd, CG 92.9. Given that the MOW crews get their authority electronically and don’t use radio very much anymore, it’s now much more useful to report MOW activity here. In a way, we’re back to the days of telegraph: the RR communications are pri...

Q326 east at Glenlord Rd, Stevensville.
Big train today. 2 units up front and a mid-train DPU. Decent sized cut of auto racks in the train.
(Edit: I have a very narrow view of the tracks from my office. I rarely post locomotive numbers because they go by too fast for me to see.)

On a side note, what held up Amtrak so badly last night? Not sure if it was weather related in the Chicago area, had heard on the scanner Hi-Railers on the Barr sub making reports for flash floods. The Pere Marquette left Chicago on time and was over an hour late at St. Joe. The Capitol Limited als...

When solar gets covered by ice and snow power output drops, then you will look like Texas last winter No, the real problem is that the Texas grid is connected to nothing. If you are connected into the US grid, you are under Federal regulation. Texas thinks themselves above Federal regulation. So th...

X327-22 Is this Q327 running out of their time slot? Usually, “X” is for out of slot or extra trains. But for several days, for unknown reasons, Q327’s symbol has been a day ahead of the actual date. i.e., yesterday was the 21st but the train was Q327-22. So to get back on track with the dates, I s...
