Re: NS to be Taken Over by CP?
I cannot forsee any more mergers amomgst class 1's. Aside from coast to coast systems (very unlikely for a variety of reasons) mergers within the mega systems as they are would eliminate competition which is a no-no. More likely to see spin-offs before a big merger. But the story does make for a goo...

Re: 2 Mile Train at Durand
CN's "land barges" are notoriously long. The limiting factor on Flint Sub train lengths seems to be siding length, although the siding at Emmett (first siding west of Port Huron) is at least 2 miles long. I think the other most often used sidings are of similar length. On the Transcon, there are re...

Re: Rail Faning in Novi
I'd drive the extra few minutes down to Plymouth. It will drastically improve your odds, plus whatever runs in Novi ends up there. Ok, sounds good. would that be to the diamond there? Can you suggest a viewing area there? You can go to the old freightouse and station area to see the detroit leg. Th...

Re: Woman killed by Cuyahoga Valley Scenic train
Peninsula is a sgtation stop IIRC, so the train couldn't have been moving that fast right? If it was a Ped strike or a vehicle strike may help shed some light on the situation.

Re: Wolverine schedule change?
To be fair to the timeliness, there is a ton of track work going on right now. I think there are at least 10 items town line-ypsi alone. Last time I rode 349, of the twelve or so items on the AML Detroit-BC, all but two were on the town line-ypsi segment. Most EB trains lose 30-60 minutes DER-ARB. B...

Re: Wolverine schedule change?
Amtrak can be counted on for one thing, and that is that their trains rarely, if ever, run as advertised. I have never been on an Amtrak train that was on-time, even in the departure from the point of origin. And, the bathrooms on the train are filthy. And, the train will be either too hot in the s...

Re: Canada by Rail: 60 Years of "The Canadian"
I thought Canadians loved regional rail travel more than American. Why are they having funding issues? I think the analogy is best seen in view of America in the 1960's. The Lets say SP is trying to discontinue the sunset limited. Town XYZ hears about it and pitches a fit. ICC hears many XYZ towns ...

I run into Sunday drivers every day on my commute! I used that term on my friends and they looked at me confused lol! Were you growing up when the interurban system could take you to Jackson or AA, or is that before your time hoborich? I sure would kill for DET or AA to have a public rail transit sy...

Re: Am I the only one who notices...
Hey, thanks for that info. When I normally take Amtrak to Chicago I normally then take a Metra out to either Hinsdale, Lagrange, Franklin Park or Blue Island. Been about 20 years since I rode out to Elmhurst, looks like time to ride out to West Chicago. West Chicago is 3-4 stops past elm hurst. We ...

Re: Am I the only one who notices...
Where exactly is "West Chicago"? I have an old "Railfan's Guide to Chicago" & there is no mention of it. I see on your video the CN crosses the UP, is this originally a GTW line or EJ&E ? Also is it an ex C&EI line or C&NW? Can the location be reached by Metra? Thanks. 3 tracks are ex CNW, north so...

There seems to be an emphasis on quality/ uniqueness in the hobby right now. For instance no more "same old same old" Chicago railroad videos. People are going for the unique. Anyway that's how i see it. I am in the group as a Railfan from Dubai I met. A train is a train and I'm happy to see it. So ...

Re: Nippon-Sharyo Bilevel/Siemens Charger Updates?
I imagine they wouldn't use the ugly ass cabcars, because 2 P42s are required to reach 110mph. Unless the talgos have their own HEP source.....which, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they do. I remember that on an older thread there was talk that someone, somewhere started that 2xp42=110 ...
