Re: Return of the T&OC- Stony Ridge
Google Earth released their latest satellite images dated April 2016. You can now see the cars stored in Stony Ridge. I'm not sure if they are still there or not.

Re: CSX Upper River Bridge: Proposal to Remove
There is an actual photo of the derailment, but I don't know who owns the photo for permission. Although here is a newspaper photo of the tracks. Unfortunately the quality is bad. https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1350&dat=19820505&id=R3gUAAAAIBAJ&sjid=pgIEAAAAIBAJ&pg=6104,5324577&hl=en. At lea...

Re: CSX Upper River Bridge: Proposal to Remove
I can't imagine the costs of replacing the bridge with a bike trail bridge. But it does not seem to mention, other than it being an alleged eyesore to some, if the structure of the bridge is failing and a hazard to boat traffic below. If they were to paint it, maybe that would be helpful. I bet it w...

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't some railroads in NW Ohio not use ballast or not very much ballast when originally built? The Cloverleaf, not far away from Napoleon, I believe I heard did not use much ballast when built either. Although I can't find any data to prove this theory.

My two-cents is that the proposed crossings slated to be closed will not happen.

If or when they start removing the crossings between Napoleon and Liberty Center, can someone post any updates of the project on here? Thank you.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
With everything being pulled up, taking photos of what's left and of the signals before they're taking away would be a nice memory.

Re: IORY South End Part Five
I thought the whole discussion with adding freight up to Lebanon was to offset the costs of the tourist trains. Wasn't adding freight a major bargaining chip? Also, I thought the main reason for the repairing of the west-end bridge was to have it up to code in order to haul freight.

Re: Return of the T&OC- Stony Ridge
Jones Hamilton Co. is currently renting space from Jacobs on the Stony Ridge portion of the line and storing their empty rail cars. Jones Hamilton Co. is a customer on the line about 4 or so miles north of Stony Ridge.

Re: NS increases traffic on former Nickel Plate line
I think it's safe to assume the increased rail traffic has returned back to normal traffic. There has been a string of cars stored on the (loop) siding in Bay Village for over a month. Typically the siding is kept clear so trains can pass each other when there's an increase in traffic.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Google Earth satellite images were updated recently. You can now see the activity back in October of the hoppers at Liberty Center and the reinstallation of the diamond. The hoppers were loaded on the eastern side of 109 as earlier described (without crossing signs or signals installed at 109). Ther...

30 jobs will be lost according to the News-Herald. The article also explains that this new efficiency will help the railroad appear strong as an independent railroad to its investors without needing to merge with CP. http://www.news-herald.com/general-news/20151223/norfolk-southern-plans-to-consolid...

Re: NS to idle Ashtabula coal docks
This could have been avoided. There's no reason the coal industry should be suffering when the US has more coal to export than any other country in the world. But we all know why this is happening and the person responsible.
Re: Carey, OH
Does anyone know when the stub-end track in Continental was last used? It appears to follow the former Clover Leaf route (correct me if I'm wrong). Was this stub-end track a rebuild on the abandoned ROW or are these original tracks of the former Clover Leaf that just happened to be stub-end when the...
