Re: NS Peavine talk
I don't see NS ever having interest in opening the Peavine but one never know I see NS just opened a line they recently closed this week. Where at? I think the ONLY way they would open it back up is if someone else pays for it so to speak but, then again even thats doubtful. As of right now, they'r...

Re: NS Peavine talk
Midland, I heard at our union meeting that there's new signal masts laying on the Peavine. I'm assuming they were talking about the west end.
This is all I know... I don't know if there's any truth to it but, given the amount of info you always seem to have maybe you had heard something.

Quick I&O question.
I'm assuming the answer to this is yes but, I want to double check.
The I&O turn jobs (LSL, LNL, ect). I'll use LNL as an example. When it leaves Lima for Delta, I know they take north bound traffic with them but, do they switch industries on the way up (and or back)?

Williams Road (south end of Watkins Yard) and Cook Rd (or Weber Road) are good places to catch Norfolk Southern traffic.

Re: What does "miles of road" insinuate?
Miles of road is basically the length of the railroad. As in route miles. Mileposts. Miles of track includes such things as yard and siding track. Thus your railroad might be 100 miles long but adding in sidings, double track, etc you have 150 miles of track. Thanks, that's a lot easier to understa...

What does "miles of road" insinuate?
Although I've seen this mentioned in many places. I was reading the Wiki article on the Bessemer & Lake Erie. Its says "At the end of 1925 B&LE operated 228 miles of road on 631 miles of track; at the end of 1970 mileages were 220 and 489." What does that mean? What makes "miles of road" different f...

K185 frequency.
How often does the K185 run on average per day/week?
Also, I'm assuming the docks shut down for the winter.. Is it scheduled or do they wait untill the lakes freeze? And where does the ore come from during this time (to the mill)?

No, the one that operated around Pittsburgh. Moves a lot of steel related traffic.

Union Railroad, anyone knowledgeable?
Always intrigued by the Union Railroad because they're entire roster (to my knowledge) is switcher types.
One thing I can't seem to find and answer to though.. they still (last I checked) use cabooses in the modern age? Why is this?

CCET is raking in $30-40k a month in just storage fees. That's pretty good money for not much work (not working an active customer). Why is it that more shortlines don't do this? Like the Ohio South Central for example (although, I've read of rumors they were clearing track south of Oak Hill for th...

Supposedly have option to lease 12 old coal gons to use in stone service if they ever figure out the lease out to Plum Run plus Evans decides they want stone. Re: NS West Virginia Secondary-Columbus Oh to Alloy WV
WATCO won't have any ability to market the line or rates. NS is controlling all of that. Basically NS is getting WATCO to do the work with cheaper labor for a set per car fee and pay NS to lease the line. Feel bad for the people losing their jobs or forced to bump somewhere else. People replacing t...

I had heard the rumors. Not really surprised to see it happen. There's around 16 transportation guys left over there, I know of atleast 2 old enough to retire. Wonder how many will come to Portsmouth/Columbus or if any will go to the shortline (if they even can). Despite NS guys being forced out, it...

They generally keep your job. That's about it. Far as investigations and Contracts go.. don't count on anything good anymore. Sometimes I wonder why we even have a union.
