Re: Fiat- Chrysler Expansion
It will be interesting to see how much traffic does result. Do they plan on building a loading ramp on site, or farming the work out to other facilities?

Re: SRI announces embezzlement by former employee
This is terrible news. I'm not diving into politics, but mentioning this as contributing to the discussion. I am the treasurer for a state level Political Action Committee. (won't say which one). The most total contributions and bank balance I've dealt with in any given fiscal year are well south of...

Re: Quarry in Wabash
So would they run the power around the train in Elkhart, or cut the power off at Elkhart and have the Grand Elk use their own power?Ypsi wrote:The quarry is sending unit trains to Kalamazoo via the Grand Elk. Not sure of a start date, but it sounds like 1-2 trains a week is what it should be.

Re: Quarry in Wabash
The only quarry that shows on Google maps, is the one west of town. It does have a fairly large rail loading area. Who's line is it that they connect to? That would be the NS Wabash Main from Detroit to St Louis. If going from there to South Bend, that line connects with the Marion District. A trai...

Re: Michigan Central Amtrak Station
Amtrak could easily operate a connector bus from Pontiac, to Troy, to Royal Oak, to the station at Woodward and Baltimore, to Michigan Central. The 2017 ridership numbers for the following: Pontiac: 13,300 Troy: 29,000 Royal Oak: 28,800 Detroit: 63,300 Dearborn: 72,200. Another option would be to ma...

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
I just witnessed up close on Tuesday the ND&W running east from Cecil toward Defiance. They were chugging along at 5 mph tops, and still wobbling like crazy. The debris and vegetation is not near as bad as the previous owner. Crossings are in better shape. There is only so much that can be done with...

Re: Potash plant
If you could haul two or three different 100 car unit trains out of there every week, then it might be worth putting the rails back in. What would be the most that would come from here? I'm guessing it wouldn't fill but more than two dozen hoppers a week, which is almost what it would take to worry ...

Re: GLC ?
If you do catch them going north in Mt Pleasant, you might as well make the trip to Clare. It's a very easy 15 mile drive, and you can see most everything the GLC does in Clare legally.

Re: Battle Creek customers....one less customer
For food processors, their outbound loads are heading to grocery warehouses which are operating almost like auto plants, with just in time delivery. Most anything that would come inbound to a food processor can be handled at the bulk transfer.....no need to spot cars at the individual facility.

Putting in a connection on the northwest quadrant in Kalamazoo would certainly be feasible. I would have to imagine quite a bit of track work would need to take place between GR and K-Zoo.J T wrote:The PM needs a second train, at the very least Fri-Sun, not some stupid GR-Kzoo-Chi routing.

Re: CN bidding for Halifax Port
This is interesting for a few reasons: 1) The Port of Halifax has significant room for expansion, unlike either Montreal or Quebec City. Yes, Quebec means a shorter haul by rail than Nova Scotia, but CN doesn't have to share any of the spoils with CP. 2) The Moterm facility has underwent a significa...
