Re: CN Holly Sub Customers and Trains 2015

Red Lava is the landscaping place Don mentioned. It is at Airport Rd, and is the last customer before Durand.

I thought the aluminum warehouse was on the Mt. Clemens sub.

Re: Amtrak Ballast Train with P32-8's

If they'd left the P-32's in the Pepsi Can paint scheme they'd look like P-32's.

Re: Pere Marquette Ionia Shops

Here is another map from 1891 that shows good detail. The shops are listed as the D L & N. There are navigation buttons at the bottom of the map.

Re: Interesting story from Delray area.

I think that you think that a "commercial pilot" is someone who flies Airbus 320s for Delta Airlines. That requires an Airline Transport Pilot certificate. I was a PRIVATE pilot with a commercial certificate. After I got my private pilot certificate I continued to my instrument rating, and the flig...

Re: Detroit-Holland Passenger Rail Study

Detroit to Grand Rapids = about a three hour drive. The train is not likely to beat that time till I-96 becomes too crowded too drive in that time.

DR,

You're right about CN doing the work. I photographed most of it till it got too dark.

Do you know of any weight limit on the low speed route?

Re: CN Diamond Charge

I have no knowledge of a charge but the ramps on the low-speed route may be incapable of supporting the weight of a steam engine. It it were crossing the diamond on the Flint Sub, I don't see a problem.

Re: MDOT/WALLY Cars, in The Detroit News

Detroit Free Press is reporting that the polls are closed and that Proposition 1 went down like a head-on train wreck, by a 4 to 1 margin. Looks like the "there is no Plan B" is about to be pulled out of the hat. But, will the folks in Lansing understand the message that the electorate (the voters)...

Re: MDOT/WALLY Cars, in The Detroit News

It is a shame to see Prop 1 die.] No, I don't think that it is a shame. More like it is a Sham. We will find out for sure tomorrow for sure. Generally I support Governor Snyder but he missed the mark with this '1'. Amen to that. Too many special interests getting some of that pie. If it all went to...

Re: California drought: Water by rail

There has been an ongoing discussion on Trains Magazine forum about moving water to California by train. The only thing the proponents haven't figured out is who is willing to sell them the water. People in the Western states are very protective of their water rights and it's not likely the Great L...
