And the previous route that CP has on the old Plymouth Sub is never congested.

Winter 2013-'14 was an unmitigated disaster. Aren't there better ways for railroads to sustain a bad season?
This is the article I am referring to.

CP Trackage Rights on NS
The latest issue of Trains has an article from Fred F. about the past winter woes. Part of the article points fingers at CP and mentions that private railroads were " punishing" CP including NS re trackage rights between Detroit and Chicago. Does anyone know the details behind this? I do know that a...

Proposed Limestone Mine UP
The Lansing State Journal is mentioning the DNR is thinking about selling 10,000 acres near Rexton MI for a limestone mining operation by Graymont the operator of the Port Inland operation. The counties are Luce, Mackinaw and Chippewa. There was an existing quarry Hendricks near Garfield Twp. Questi...

Re: Railfanning in Lansing, need some info
Since most of the action is now on the CN side I would suggest the Amtrak station. Trowbridge was a hopping place back when CP was using the CSX line. Sadly those days are gone.

Re: West Michigan RR Abandonment Petition Coming
And yet Pioneer has remained in business all these years hasn't it? And most shortlines use rebuilt first generation power, there's nothing wrong with GP-9s, GP-7s GP-30s take a look at Indiana Northeastern's roster sometime. Pioneer has many GP-16s as dos Corman. As to not be interested in maintain...

Re: West Michigan RR Abandonment Petition Coming
Probably keeping some of the track for car storage purposes. Pioneer purchased this out of bankruptcy court for $200,000 cash and $300,000 shares in stock. They had targeted it for 500 cars per year don't think they ever got that. The big disappointment was not getting the Coca Cola business in Paw ...

I thought this was interesting: http://rail.railplanning.com/files/2012/03/20120306-Elliott-Rail-Finance-Presentation-v19.pdf Can I assume then the used locomotive market is tight and the prices that shortlines/regionals would be paying for used power (NRE, Larry's Truck and Electric) are fairly sti...

Power Shortage
Is there a locomotive shortage on Class I these days? Some of my friends were telling me that BNSF has pulled all their power out of storage. This seems a bit strange to me as all the Class I have ordered or received significant new power even during the depth of the current recession.

East Lansing Amtrak Station
What a circus and I'm guessing the new station will be smaller than the current station even with all bus traffic they've added. The waiting room for when the station is locked (generally either 330 or 530pm daily) was actually going to be smaller than the current area which at most can handle 6 peo...

Re: Amtrak Service from GR to Detroit?
The new intermodal station in East Lansing? What has been accomplished there since it was announced outside of moving some stuff out of vacant MSU buildings and drilling some holes in the ground? Answer nothing. CATA, MSU and Amtrak apparently are fine with all sorts of bus traffic now coming and go...

Re: Soo/CP On CSX In Michigan, Revisited
It was the CP trains combined with CN that made Trowbridge a great place for train fans. It wasn't usual to have three trains waiting at the diamond. I certainly miss the Soo White SD 60s with the lights on the hood, the Red Barns, the SD90s and all the other power that appeared on the CP, I miss th...
