Believe me, that is what it is. I am the Car Controller for all of RailAmerica lines in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. No freight car (or any piece of equipment) goes onto any of these lines without my knowing of it. And Michigan Shore is the second busiest (after HESR) RA railroad in Michigan, thanks ...

Great pics, thanks for posting. You don't see much posted on this line. It is really the Michigan Shore, correct? No, Mid-Michigan. I'm sorry, but it really is the Michigan Shore. The Mid Michigan runs Greenville south through Lowell to Elmdale (most abandonded) and Paines west through Alma to Elwe...

According to Trains Magazine article it takes 100 cars per mile per year to keep line open and profitable. Ex. 100 miles of track x 100 cars per year = 10,000 cars per year. GLC operates 350 miles of track and handles about 10,000 cars a year. Far below what Trains Magazine says it takes. In fact, ...

I think I've seen photos of Lake States doing this in a few places, just leaving cars lying there. If they are scrap, why don't they cut them up on the spot? If they don't buy them and scrap them, they have to pay car hire on them until they are gone.

Ain't railroading fun. Another war story to add to your book. And next time someone asks about going railroading, let them have this.
All the crews on HESR spent the day today digging out switches, another fun railroad job.

Doc, I wonder who is paying the car hire on those cars? Figure about .50 per hour for each car while it is on your railroad, mounts up pretty quick.

Doesn't make sense unless one of the trains ran a red signal (he'll be fired) knocking down the signal for the conflicting movement.

As already said, only one can be lined across at a time, the other must stop (or should before going past the signal).

Shortlines are popping up everywhere so fast it's hard to keep up with them, especially out west.
