Re: Swanton staging yard

Shipping rates for coal are much cheaper on boats than rail. Several years a go a article was written in a railroad publication how coal was loaded at Toledo on boats for rail served generating plants in Michigan. This still takes place today. So don't disregard the idea this coal won't go to Sandu...

Re: Swanton staging yard

So will the coal be transloaded into ships (in Sandusky I think someone said) or will it be delivered to the DTE power plants by rail? Wow, really people? I thought this was fairly straightforward. This is the DTE coal contract that CSX lost (effective the end of this year). NS has had it before an...

Re: Swanton staging yard

Wow, really people? I thought this was fairly straightforward. This is the DTE coal contract that CSX lost (effective the end of this year). NS has had it before and used to jam up the wagon works sidings and Nasby siding with coal trains in Toledo. They use those so much for other things now it wou...

Re: New LSRC Power

What are the plans for the CEFX GP20D's I saw in Saginaw last month? Also for the 4300, 4301, and 4302. 00-01-02 are done. GP20Ds are storage for CSXT. What do you mean by "are done" with regards to the 00-01-02? Off the roster? Going for repaint? The three of them were spotted in CSX Stanley yard ...

Supposedly "no" - but also no fence on that side. ;) Have to wait & see though what actually plays out.

Louisville & Indiana RR (LIRC)

What do operations on the LIRC look like these days?

When (time & days of the week) do they regularly run the C-A & C-J trains (assuming those are still the normal 'turns' N & S out of Columbus)?

Thanks for any info.

Re: KJ B Unit ready to roll

Queston: What's the cost analysis as to when to repair and keep a unit vs. scrapping and using the proceeds to buying a different used locomotive? For example I see alot of former BNSF GP-7s and a few GP-10s and GP-16s at National Railway Equipment any idea what a decent GP-7 would cost these days?...

It very much is still in use as a warehousing facility - though these days it's all truck business. sigh.

Re: Toledo Track Map

Is this an error, or does the I&O have a line up to Stanley. I thought there was a track south out of Stanley that was seldom if ever used. Is this the line in question and does the I&O own or have trackage rights on it? That's a Watco Whoops! The track out the south end of Stanley is the former T&...

Changes on the Ann Arbor

Some interesting developments on the Annie. The 3927 has been repainted into WAMX corporate "bumblebee" black & yellow with no logos on the ends but the current Ann Arbor logo on the long hood (like the cab side logo on existing units but with black lettering instead of red). WAMX reporting marks on...

Re: KJ B Unit ready to roll

I hate to make predictions like this, because they usually end up correct; but I'm guessing the 1761 will be back mid-August, if past performance is any guide. As to how long the F-unit sandwich lasts, it may go away before then if the traffic doesn't warrant 4 units. Boy, I'm really glad I got the...
