Re: Single or Double Track between AA & Dexter?

Fall of 1987 was when the second main was ripped up on the Michigan line. 1986 is when the remaining main became welded rail.

Good choice of images (assuming they or similar images appear in the video), I would consider not separating the text as you did and using one to two lines if possible. Looking on YouTube tending it seems thah text is back down again, as are arrows and circling things (thankfully  ). Also I wou...

Re: Single or Double Track between AA & Dexter?

I reviewed the Conrail track charts on multmodalways.org. The charts show the main through Ann Arbor is double track in 1984 but single track in 1988. I think it splits those years and was 1986. I have a older friend who watched Conrail rip up the second main near Ypsilanti and "rode" on the train ...

Re: New CSX Special Unit

I swear these “special paint” units just keep getting weirder and worse. Can’t say I’m a fan of the Amtrak OLS anniversary scheme and this one is not great either IMO. I think the colors are nice but the execution is weird. The yellow top makes it look like they put the safety stripe in the wrong lo...

Re: I rode Amtrak and I have a lot to say...

So your trip was almost ruined when someone else missed their train? You realize you are supposed to be in the boarding area a certain amount of time before the train departs and on board as well just like an airline. If you are late you miss the train, announcement or not. Also given the noise and ...

Re: HSR to Michigan? HSR alliance news

This looks to be about a 10 year old article. The route to Detroit makes little sense and acquiring the land to do any of this will doom the project from the start, not to mention you are missing huge existing Amtrak markets. Fort Wayne does not presently have service, but . Their map seems to show ...

Re: 0/10, Would NOT Recommend: 2 Trains in 4 Hours at Franklin Park, Illinois

It’s about timing.. as pointed out in your comment section you went on a Sunday. There are less metras on Sunday, and there can be less trains like locals etc. we got 5 trains in 90 mins yesterday before moving onto a different spot. I’ll say I don’t pick Franklin park but if I’m passing through I’l...

It’s not an “issue” per say it’s a speed restriction for the new ties. If I understand correctly, the new ties need a certain amount of tonnage over them before normal speeds resume.

I have heard a story about this happening at Durand when some foamers gave a train roll by on the radio.. haven’t heard about it on AML but it is obviously plausible

Re: Muskegon long term goals include Amtrak…?

Considering the word train is used basically once in the article and it’s in the line “by train or bus” talking about a connection to Chicago, I would guess they will look at the cost of having a separate train and settle on an Ambus to GR or Holland connecting with the Pere Marquette. A separate co...

Re: Amtrak Train Locations/Heads Up - 2022

They can't be used for getting on/off. Something about the handrails coming loose. The hand rails were removed when I rode 355 on Monday. It was dumb to detrain out of one door in Chicago. Really made the process take forever compared to what it should be. The holes for attaching the handrails are ...

About 99% of railroaders care more about the seat they sit in and the air conditioning then the paint on the locomotive. Likely whoever sent it didn’t even realize that is was “special paint”

Amtrak 354 just went NB through Bloomfield Hills at 7 am, arriving six hours late at Pontiac. Amtrak 351 left Pontiac on time. We will see about 353 which will use 354's train set. 353 on time today according to Amtrak App. Seems like a quick flip, it is possible they had a locomotive ready to be p...

Hot 90 mins on the Michigan line

Today was a surprisingly busy evening on the AML. After work, I was surprised to hear B25 coming east on the radio. I grabbed them clearing the Huron river with their usual pair of SD40-2’s for power. 1FB80951-23F8-4F50-9073-711BEA0837DD.jpeg Very shortly after at 5:42 I heard 965 clearing on the ra...
