Re: Harrison Leaves CP, maybe for CSX -- MICHIGAN WILL BE OK
c. Actually, an interesting thing about Harrison: while severing all ties with CP, he knows all about their Michigan situation...as in not owning their own line. And he knows, too, that CP has tried to buy it before. So alternately, besides the MDOT option, this move, in my opinion, would raise the...

NS and UP power on SB LIRC Edinburgh grain
Southbound from Columbus about 15 minutes ago... Edinburgh grain loads heading to Louisville, power a four-unit mix of NS and UP EMD and GE wide-cab power. Must be headed to NS interchange. First time I've seen this train with other than LIRC power... likely approaching Seymour IN by now. Anyway, he...

Re: Where do I go from here?
Consider as a stepping-stone... lots of jobs available OTR and local. Motor carriers can't find enough drivers, and they'll train to get your CDL. This will give you some demonstrated work history in transportation, will show you can pass a DOT test and physical, etc. Then keep applying at the RR's ...

Re: Amtrak Consist Winter 2016-17
Is the BLUE WATER running Amfleet/Horizons or Superliners? Thanks! Andy Bluewater has been single-level Horizon-Amfleet since Amtrak went 110mph on the line west of K-zoo. I have biz class on 365 from Lapeer on Monday, so assuming it's still the case. I'd rather ride coach in a Superliner, though -...

Re: Palace of Auburn Hills
Well, I hope we'll come to see racks moving out of Orion again one day - especially as this would be the closest active rail to my home. I suppose when the dray and reload costs to-from New Boston become excessive perhaps GM will come to terms with CN. We will see I guess.

Re: Palace of Auburn Hills
I'm more concerned that CN will give up on this last stub of the old PO&N, ex-GTW Cass City Sub now that there will no longer be a need to support the circus train in Auburn Hills. It doesn't look like the GM Orion plant will be shipping by rail on-site any time soon (currently dray their finished v...

They'll call it the "Annie, Mackinac Mac, Copper Range & Hecla" Actually better to revive an old DSS&A predecessor road... The Detroit, Mackinac and Marquette Railway - aka The Mackinac Route. seriously, folks... the college urban and transportation studies students need something to write papers a...

Re: Amtrak Consist Winter 2016-17
Anyone know how to gauge whether AMTK 350-355 will have the Superliners vs. single-level Horizon or Amfleet? I'd like to take a ride to CUS on the double-deckers, but when looking at some random January dates for coach I see 355 listed as business-class available. I'm assuming they're planning on th...

I hope the run from Flint to Durand follows 364... I'm on the Bluewater tonight from CUS - will stick around in Lapeer when I detrain should the Santa train be following us.

Re: CN Updates November 2016
Hopefully someone can shoot this one... Riding this morning's AMTK 365 there is a westbound CN consist at the west end of CN's Battle Creek yard - three units, with the middle unit an Algoma F40PH. Caught me by surprise so no photo here, and the notoriously dirty Horizon windows wouldn't have helped...

That's some pretty minor damage to the trailer... this (dumb) truck driver was lucky.

Re: Marquette Iron Range Railroad Operations
Same here (the detailed info). I just watched the MR video and really enjoyed it - would make for a neat model railroad with those two Geeps. I need to make the road trip back up to Marquette (old NMU alum) and check out this Humbolt train and ops. I've got a threesome of the HO scale Bachmann GP7 u...

CR Detroit,
Thanks for the detailed posting on SE Ontario ops and spots - great photos too!
I've got my passport, so looks like a trip east on I-69 to the 402 is in my future - especially the OSR. Wow... first-gen Geeps and F-units on freights Awesome!

Re: Lake Shore Limited Michigan test routing
That seems to be pretty straight-forward from a(n apparent) BLET rep. I hope everyone play's-ball, so we have a chance to go east-west long distance without having to drive to (and park-in) Toledo. I've ridden the Lake Shore to Schenectady and New York Penn for work in the past - being able to catch...

Re: Galesburg RR Days
CMStP&P #261 seemed to do well with the Duluth overnight trip earlier this month. First and Premium class sold out in days (tickets went on sale in March) and I think coach at least came close to being sold out if not completely filled. I rode the Superdome this excursion and despite the weather (on...

I fly Delta 12-20 times a year out of TVC (I am Gold Elite with Delta, so I try to avoid American and United). I wish I flew your frequency... I'm at 78 MQS (segments) already, and it's not even the half-way point for 2016. Basement model railroad has been stalled for years since I'm never home lon...

Re: Hotels Near Union Station
There's also a nice Crowne Plaza hotel 3.5 blocks to the west of CUS, at the corner of Monroe and Halsted. I stayed there once for a Midwest High Speed Rail Association meeting - balcony views of downtown were nice, especially at night. I walked there and back pulling my rollaboard from Union Statio...

Neat way to use an enlarged drawing to place the tracks. How did you print it large-format - on a plotter?
