Re: CN steamer 1395 cosmetic restoration at Coopersville

Does anyone know the status/history of this little CMRY centercab critter? IMG_6976.jpeg Meanwhile, just around the corner, the Coopersville Museum looks like they are just wrapping up construction on their new building enclosing the Mona Lake GRGH&M interurban car. They’re also the caretakers for w...

Re: CN steamer 1395 cosmetic restoration at Coopersville

I finally had a chance to get up to Coopersville to the monorail to check in on 1395 in its new cosmetic career. Looks great! 👌 it’s a great morning shot!

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - Oct 2024

Y121 north at Riley St. Holland 8:07 AM. Just a lone engine. Heading back south with some hoppers from Endeavor (or whatever the elevator's name is now) in Harlem and a boxcar from Stow 8:45 AM. New name is Keystone Cooperative... But Endeavor sounds so much better ... They were quick to paint the ...

Re: Classic INER high hoods on the Old Road 10-10-2024

Thanks for your compliments and the heads up on the photos, I think I’ve corrected the issue in the various posts. INER is great: generally classic power, generally friendly crews, generally good scenery. Sometimes chasing a single interesting train for the day outweighs seeing a dozen or more train...

Re: Classic INER high hoods on the Old Road10-10-2024

We kept an eye on things from the slow motion Blimpie while the crew did some switching in the Hillsdale yard. They picked up 4 more cars from the pocket track, 3 covered hoppers and another tankcar. Two other lines of tankcars were also parked in the yard here, not sure who they were for. The crew ...

Re: Classic INER high hoods on the Old Road10-10-2024

We saw the train pass the Coldwater depot, where just a few maple trees are left to provide background color, then hustled to get ahead of them at a few of our favorite scenic locations. On their rehabbed right of way, they don’t waste a lot of time! Unfortunately we didn’t have a moment to check ou...

Re: Classic INER high hoods on the Old Road10-10-2024

The crew relocated to Jay Street to fire up the 1601, which would power the eastbound train. 1602’s mechanical issue was unable to be resolved and it would be towed for repairs. 2230 was left behind. 1601 was brought west to join the train, and they pulled out for a trip over the scenic Old Road. IM...

Classic INER high hoods on the Old Road 10-10-2024

For my 5,000th RailRoadFan post, enjoy this brief trip report from scenic southern Michigan! It was great to get the J32885, Mackinac Mac and myself trio together for a few moments to railfan! On October 10 a cloudless fall day dawned cool but warmed quickly. The INER planned to run a road freight f...

Re: The return of gypsum near Alabaster for Lake State.

My first time posting! Welcome aboard TubaDave. We’ll be glad to see your reports along the Huron shore and elsewhere! It’s pretty exciting the Alabaster branch is being relaid. As was mentioned, check out the Train Location Updates / Heads Ups posts where train sightings are posted. Most class 1s ...

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - Oct 2024

FWiW, the M326 call time may have to do with available power at Barr, but it also directly has to do with what time they get in the day before as M327. If M327 gets a late start from GR or had an exceptionally long day, their start time at Barr is delayed so they get required rest. This pretty much...

Re: Shortline Train Location Updates - October 2024

Unless something has changed, a southbound INER mixed freight should start the day near Ray/state line and work toward Montpelier with about 15 cars. They’ll have switching to do at Fremont. Power is the classic high hood duo 1601/1602. 1602 may get set out along the way.

12:45 engine 2680 Y121 lite power arriving at Zeeland perhaps to reposition or pull the big 12 axle flat or the 2 BNSF hoppers stuck behind it. I think the Lumber Yard spur is empty.

Great idea! Here’s WM 1852 on L303 at Cedar Street, Lansing on 8/22/24. B2B with CSXT 455. IMG_6251.jpeg Are you planning to include Heritage units that came up from Toledo to Rougemere and return? A few have come up that went back south again. Chessie comes to mind, but I believe a few others did, ...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/mtlwestrailfan/54029790363/in/dateposted/ Speaking of Via, looks like they're starting to rebuild the F40s AGAIN. 40 planned so far. Interesting! Now makes sense as the SC-42 Chargers are going into service relieving some of the assignments for the F40s (and the P42s)....

Let's look at some recent logo shots! As cars are ever more graffitied I always keep a lookout for interesting railroad logos. Here's a few: 000114200023.jpg A few of the original Grand Elk locomotives still have their original logos now 15 years after the start of Kalamazoo Branch operations. 3531 ...

Eastbound passing CP MA in Lansing with 2 GEs at 12:53 - L305? Decent sized train, viewed from several blocks away.
