Re: Kellogg's switcher being scrapped?
Scrapping it. I wonder if it is still in any way operational? If not, I can't see it being worth much more than the scrap value. If it is still operational, or has the ability to be operational, a vintage loco like that could be a target for a museum. Its not like the NW-2 was the widest used of th...

The largest vehicle always has the right of way. The railroad's flashing red lights trump the police car's flashing red lights.

Re: Michigan Date Nail Areas
Date nails were typically on the top of the ties centered between the rails but, I have seen them outside the rails too. They wouldn't be on the ends since you wouldn't be able to see them under the ballast. I don't know if they've been used since the 60's (50+ years ago!). I suspect you'd have a ha...

I thought WC GP40 3018 was the last one operating on CN? I thought it has been running around Illinois and the St. Louis area.

Re: EL 725 SOLD**
Yes, the two A units are the ex-Montreal commute ones that sat in Columbus for quite a while at Silcott. They only have 4 or 5 passenger cars so, no, they don't need an A-B-A set to pull their train. They currently operate with a single BL-2 pulling everything. The cars have all been redone recently...

Was at the Stourbridge Line shop in Honesdale last week. One F already in primer in their shop with plans to paint it into the maroon Pennsy 5-stripe scheme to match their passenger cars. Personnel there said COE 725 and an ex-CP B unit will join this one in the PRR 5-stripe scheme to make an A-B-A ...

NRE is NOT friendly at all. The road alongside the deadline is NRE property and they can/will run you off. You may be able to get away with a drive by, but I wouldn't linger. The Iowa Interstate engine facility is right across the access road along part of the deadline and they don't seem to ...

If this will be led by one of the E-units, I'm sure we would appreciate an update. Yes, I did read below that this was unknown as of yesterday. About how fast are they projected to run? I may try to get a shot as they pass through Lansing if I can guess a time. I'd need to sneak away from work so I ...

White units WB on CN in Lansing
A non-railfan friend from work mentioned to me today seeing a CN westbound through Lansing last Wednesday (he thinks) that had 2 CN units then about 6 more units behind that he described as appearing to be whitewashed all over. Did anyone see this? What's the story on these extra units? Did anyone g...

If you're interested in the South Shore, of course the street running (11th St.) in Michigan City is interesting. Their freight usually departs westward from the Carroll Ave shops in the morning. Highway 12 pretty much follows the tracks west to Gary. Ogden Dunes station is a good spot to sit. Lots ...

Re: 2016 NFL Season predictions
There is no incentive for the Lions to put a quality product on the field. They continue to fill the seats with a poor/mediocre team. They aren't going to sell more tickets if they are actually good. And they may sell less beer at the games if fans weren't trying to drown their sorrows while there. ...

If I remember correctly, he also specifically posed the couple in the foreground in his own convertible. You are correct on both counts. His car also appears with a posed couple in his photo of an old fellow filling a gravity fed gas pump with a train in the background. If you google O. Winston Lin...

I can't believe that space held 270 cars. It is a great photo, most especially in a time before trick photography. Actually Link did use some trick photography to create this image. When the train was passing and he fired all his flashbulbs, it washed out the image on the drive in screen so it appe...
