Re: Radio question from a radio newbie
Thanks, all, the Danny Harmon suggestion was excellent- it taught me the basics of what I needed to know. I guess all I really need now are the scanner, the road channels for my two railway lines, and to figure out the mile markers and locations near me to listen for and I'm good to go. Very cool! ...

Re: Radio question from a radio newbie
I would recommend watching Youtube videos from Florida's Danny Harmon (Distant Signal Productions) on the subject matter of using scanners for railfanning from the scanners to antennas to understanding the railroad ops chatter you are hearing.Very informative yet easy to understand.

Re: CN Newberry Switcher 10/6/16
Where do they go to pick up their cars for the branch to Munising? It does seem like they are profitable enough that the track looks heavy-duty and well maintained. Also where does the mainline at Trout Lake begin and end?

Re: CN Newberry Switcher 10/6/16
I gotta ask: is Newberry on an CN branch or the mainline and what is the track speed on the line? All I know is that I believe its the same line to follows M-28 to Munising it seemed like.

I also like Wyandotte too :) Wyandotte is great in the mornings up until 1 pm and its busy again at 4 pm to 12 am :D Wyandotte is like Russian Roulette to me: You can one night hardly catch but a train every couple of hours and the next night get 5 trains in a row on each others heels. Like I once ...

Re: INE acquires pair of SD40-2's.
Apparently the INE is getting a pair of SD40-2's so they will no longer need NS power on the big grain and unit trains. They did not need the NS power but used it anyhow. The power was often dedicated power and stuck with the train. So I imagine you will still see NS power on grain trains on the IN...

Re: Watco filing with STB for Grand Rapids Trackage Rights
To quote what I said in the comments on the Trains article:
CSX is being stubborn: all this time they had let Grand Elk operate with their permission on that track out of good faith and they couldve continued doing so through this as a temporary agreement until the paperwork with the STB was filed.

Re: Great Lakes Central 6 July 2016 - Northern District.
Question: When they only have a few cars, do they leave one engine shut down? In one of the pics, there seems to be exhaust coming from the front unit only. Seen the same thing on the segment on the DVD,Shortlines of Indiana & Michigan where they were following the Indiana Northeastern. When the tr...

INRD/ISRR diamond in Switz City
I just saw this location in a DVD set I bought on the INRD and thought Id ask for future reference:
1. Who owns/maintains the diamond?
2. Whose traffic has priority?
3.How many trains pass through there on average?

My assumption would be 11:59pm on the 20th myself.Ypsi wrote:If the information holds true, Would that put the last train by the manned tower on the 19th or 20th? My assumption would be that it closes on midnight after the 20th based on how things seem to be handled but I know it could go anyway

Danny Harmon is the Mike Roe of railfan vids Spell Check: that would be Mike Rowe lol :P I'll agree what that statement. Those two and Morgan Freeman are my favorite narrators out there. Easy: its a clear-up job for whatever the road train couldnt take with them due to the road train maxing out on tonnage. Proof that the Grand Elk is successfully getting new business but has yet to establish a second road train on the South End.
