Re: Wyandotte on 8/14/2013

@AARR, trnwatcher and SD80MAC: Thanks for your comments.

I am now planning on using this thread to post photos from my future railfanning trips, so as to not clog up the Trip Reports forum. :D

Wyandotte on 8/14/2013

Today was rather chilly, but since some new stuff I'd ordered from Lowe's was supposed to arrive today, we decided to head out to Oak Street. We waited nearly 20 minutes for a light to appear, then, suddenly (since I did not expect a northbound train on the two tracks behind me), the crossing signal...

CN Heritage Units

I am starting to work on heritage units for CN (and taking a page out of the NS book for fun), if CN did decide to paint them for their 100th anniversary in 2018. Below is a list of what's been done and what will be painted. All units will be GE ES44ACs. Feel free to suggest which railroad I should ...

Re: NS Updates - August 2013

Here's another one for any Michigan foamers: As of right now, SD70ACe #1067 (the Reading heritage unit) is leading 11J in Cresson, PA (just a few miles west of the Horseshoe Curve). Destination: Sterling Yard in Sterling Heights, MI. This will be the second known time the Reading heritage unit has e...

Re: Detroit and Western Railway

The D&W has just announced that they now have trackage rights between Springfield, OH and Cincinnati, OH. The Google Map of the system (link in the first post) has been updated to reflect this.

Yes, I did. Anyways, the D&W is appreciating either trackage rights or even purchasing it outright between Maitland and Cincinnati, OH.

Detroit and Western Railway

The Detroit and Western Railway's history can be traced back to 1859 by a man named Neil Runt, with an objective to have a mainline between Detroit and Chicago that would pass through far southern Michigan. Work was started in the spring of 1860 at what is now Ecorse Junction in southwest Detroit, r...

Any Signalized Crossings Left without SORS Signs?

I would like to know if there are any signalized railroad crossings left within the state of Michigan that still doesn't have at least one "stop on red signal" sign. So far, at least every signalized crossing in Michigan I've crossed over the past 15-20 years has had at least one of these signs. If ...

Re: "Bold A** predictions" for the tigers 2013

I think the bandwagon fans can jump aboard anytime now. No guarantee with the playoffs, but a very good shot for both the division and the wild card. 6 Games up on the Tribe with their downing of them tonight... Speaking of which, did any of you hear those Cleveland fans chanting "Detroit's Bankrup...

Re: Who Did This? Freshwater Railway

I figured that even though it's well over a year old, since commuter service to Ann Arbor is becoming closer to actually happening, I decided to bump this thread. Even though I may now have to wake up earlier, I can now just head over to Oak Street and board a bi-level to Detroit! Plus, I can now ta...

As of 90 minutes ago, #1071 (CNJ) is still parked at Oakwood Yard facing east, waiting to head out south.

Re: NS Heritage Unit, CNJ

The NS 1071, CNJ heratage unit is at NS Oakwood Yard in Melvindale, MI. It faces east at the fuel rack as of 1100 today. Really not even in position for a crappy shot. I just found out from heritageunits.com that #1071 is still at Oakwood Yard as of an hour ago, still facing east. It may possibly h...

As of earlier today, SD70ACe #1071 (the CNJ heritage unit) is the lone leader of 120 (which originated in Decatur, IL) on the Detroit District near Adrian! If you want to see it, it should be nearing or already at Oakwood Yard by now. This is according to heritageunits.com.

Yesterday, a MOW train with exactly two flatcars (one of which had a crane on it) was on the Shoreline Sub at Ford Avenue in Wyandotte around noon, which stopped my bus back from Southland Center. Today, there was at least one boxcar sitting there at Ford Yard, also in Wyandotte, possibly waiting fo...

Re: CSX Train Location Update 8-6-13

As of yesterday, the heritageunits.com site has reported that AC44CW #5107 (The Thomas Rice Special) was leading Q21605 southbound on the Saginaw Subdivision at Plymouth, heading towards Philadelphia. It is unknown where that train is currently at, probably somewhere in Ohio or western Pennsylvania ...
