Re: NS Peavine talk
I was out in Newtown Ohio today think i saw the new green power the CCET just brought in the B23-7. Not brand new of course used most likely from the 80s or 90s needs a paint job looks a little dated. As long as it does the job that is all that matters. Soon they will be transloading pulling rock an...

Re: Bellevue Terminal to be converted to flat-switching
I was just up there a few weeks ago on business and could see the yard is not as busy. Talking to some of the guys in the yard at a restaurant they said rail traffic is slower the last few months but starting to pick up. Wait times on the main is now less which is a good thing all because they have ...

Re: NS Peavine talk
I can't believe how active the CCET is this past year. During the week the CCET drops off and picks up several cars a week. The storage business has been a great source of revenue for the short line plus they added a few new customers on the line. NS has been keeping busy picking up and dropping off...

Re: NS Peavine talk
Was down at Clare today ran into a few crew guys from NS who just picked up some food from McDonalds. They said the CCET is going to get another engine from out west some where going to be here in the next few weeks. The engine is a older model of course a GE B23-7. The CCET is going to need more po...

Re: NS Peavine talk
64 cars went out east this week all going to Plum Run for storage. Check that some went to the Ag but most went out to Plum Run. They were all down the Penn Tracks at Clare west.

Re: NS Peavine talk
Even at 1.3% that is plenty of revenue for the CCET. They have plenty of siding and plenty of space after Plum Run. Some siding in Batavia as well. I bet all together they can store plenty of cars. I know east of Clare they have two tracks one rarely is used can get at least 70 tankers on it plus th...

Re: NS Peavine talk
I read an interesting article yesterday about the low price of fuel and empty tankers sitting on railroad Class 1 lines. CSX, CN, UP and NS don't want empty taker storage sitting on their rails as they can be dangerous as vandals could damage the takers start a fire as there are still fumes inside t...

Re: NS Peavine talk
There have been some pretty good car traffic on the Peavine of late like more than 25 car loads up east. The Ag must be very busy for this time of the year.

Re: NS Peavine talk
This is uncertain but I'm sure The CCET has it figured out. There is plenty of room at Hanson for a transloader if you look at a aerial shot from Google Earth

Re: NS Peavine talk
Here is the entire article: On March 18, the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) approved a grant and loan in the amounts of $200,000 and $500,000, respectively, to Cincinnati Eastern Railroad (CCET) to establish two transload locations on the Peavine Line and establish an on-line shuttle move o...

Re: NS Peavine talk
Good question. The CCET has a few engines to do a split. Yes it could be done and it surely wouldn't be a bad idea. I would need to look and see what siding they have up that way because to split up the train half would need to sit on a long siding while the other train gets by. I would think heavy ...

Re: NS Peavine talk
Yes this will be a nice cha ching for the CCET. Glad that that line is doing well. When NS quit running the rail I thought it would would be another story. When this railroad was used back in the day it was booming. I hate to see rails close down and this one was on the verge until the CCET came alo...

Re: NS Peavine talk
I just read on the Peavine Facebook site that the CCET wants to make a major investment on the Peavine. They are asking for a $200,000 grant and a loan up to $500,000 to establish two two transloaders on the Peavine to haul stone from Plum Run. The total amount of the project is $865,000 excluding a...

Re: NS Peavine talk
So what I found out yesterday from the NS guys is if you plan on filming any CCET trains on the Peavine stay on public property. Do not get on the railroad property. The CCET people are watching trespassers very closely. From what I understand shots have been been fired at trains, the safety of the ...

Re: NS Peavine talk
Be aware reading a Facebook page a few days ago, for some reason a CCET employee attacked a railfan video tapping a train at the old Ford Plant in Batavia Ohio. Not sure if the rail fan was on railroad property or the side of the road. Either way not sure why a railroad employee would punch a railfa...

Re: NS Peavine talk
I have noticed on the CCET facebook page there is some issues going on with trespassers on the railline from Newtown to points out east that has caused concern for the crew of the CCET. Apparently someone has been shooting at the train near Newtown which is very dangerous. The tankers are for the mo...

Re: NS Peavine talk
Happy New Year to everyone who has posted or has read posts on this Peavine thread. This is the second most watched read thread on this forum site. Kind of crazy as this is a short line rail that only goes what 78 miles east to west and it gets this much activity. Just shows railroad fans are intere...
