Hmmnn.. I was downtown TC all day today where I work, usually hear them blowing at the crossings, but not today. Missed opportunity.

TRAVERSE CITY TART TRAIL

Follows the PM along side active tracks from downtown Traverse City East to Bates. It crosses Holiday rd. that I live on and I walk my dog on it often. It runs behind Traverse Citys "miricale mile" with sandy beaches, motels and resturants. Most of these businesses have put in paved connectors from ...

Re: Military Train To Where?

Camp is northeast of Grayling, and there's even a path labeled that goes from the loop track out to Camp Grayling that's called "Army Tank Trail"....gotta assume they use that trail to move the tanks. Interesting that I see the tank trail is labeled "Lewiston Grade Trail" further to the NE. Hmmnn.....

Re: Radio use by GLC

Actually, I do on occasion hear GLC radio talk between the Owosso dispatch and various crews depending on the weather. They have a repeater in Elmira, so sometimes I can get signals bouncing off that repeater (I live on the west side on TC). Cool, can you post the Freq? Mine must be out of date. I'...

MIGN GP7 abandoned in Petoskey, Mich.

I remember seeing a MIGN locomotive sitting on a siding near Sheridan St. in Petoskey for years. I think it was a GP-7 and was in very poor condition. Anyone know why it was left behind and what happened to it, maybe a picture.

Radio use by GLC

Several years ago I was working in two way radio service, and used to hear TSBY talking to the Cadillac dispatcher. This led me to start watching train activity in the Traverse City area. At the time I didn't know what rail fanning was. I recently caught the bug again as computer message boards make...

Thanks for clearing that up Mark. I do wonder why they didn't run it around the wye in Traverse City and plow in both directions.

TSBY plow extra in Traverse City

I was cruising thru the board and found the wonderful pictures Mark Anderson has posted. This one in particular is a shot of a TSBY plow extra in Traverse City Feb. 2004 I remember seeing it come thru town about that time. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mackinacmark/12080867645/ They came up from Walt...

LS&MS Monroe line

I just went to Ohio and back passing over where this grade crossing used to be on US-23 near Petersburg Mi. I'm new to this board and have been reading up on past postings, this fascinates me as I remember seeing this in the early 70's and thought is was strange to have a RR grade crossing on a four...

Re: Traverse City Area Casino Train Examined

TC MAN, I live on Holiday Rd. and cross these tracks every day. There are not two trips a week. The snow goes undisturbed for weeks at a time except where MOW has used a pickup to plow the hump aside at the crossing. If they manage to get a passenger train running again I would happily stop for it e...

Re: Traverse City Area Casino Train Examined

Now as for this local casino train was originally conceived for TC area. Is the old PM/C&O line between TC-Williamsburg still in place? :?: Yes and is still in service with one or two trains a month delivering wholesale lumber to Williamsburg. It seems like a very short distance for commuter train....
