http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae222/jimthiaspics/Lawrence/whoissheldon-0106.jpg Anyone know who Sheldon is? This is just east of the 50th St. crossing, directly north of Baker Lake. *BUMP* I was in the area today and went looking for the "Sheldon's Ditch" sign. It was nowhere to be found (I us...

Re: Freight trains to be rolling between Ypsi and Jackson
Hello all, I'm new to the area and trying to understand the operations between Amtrak, and Norfolk Southern. Do I understand correctly that the state owns the line? Does NS provide freight service on the line the whole way, or just between Jackson and the Detroit area? Thanks! Amtrak owns the line ...

KLS&C Video on Youtube
"Michiana Mainlines" posted a 20 minute video on Youtube showing the KLS&C dinner train from Paw Paw to Lawrence in 1990. There is some wrong information in the video but most of it is correct and it is very informative. I believe this is the only publicly available footage of a train in Paw Paw and...

Re: CSX To Donate Equipment
Well it's too bad some rail groups in Michigan didn't get a chance to keep them. Last I heard all the snowplows on the west end of Elkhart yard are going to be scrapped by NS as they are going to rework that end of the yard for percision railroading. The group in Port Huron came to mind as they lik...

Re: West Michigan RR Abandonment Petition Coming
Paw Paw has been marketing very aggressively for businesses to locate there. They would probably be supportive of any effort to restore rail service. This is just an opinion but I don’t see why the Village and Township of Paw Paw wouldn’t want to try to financially help WMI return rail service to P...

Re: West Michigan RR Abandonment Petition Coming
IIRC the Coke plant in Paw Paw would be the signature customer and I don't think they would get enough cars to justify investing in rebuilding the rail but maybe I'm wrong :? . Even if they were able to justify it, where are they going to rebuild the line near Lake Cora? They would rebuild it right...

IIRC the reefers were delivered to Ralph Moyle Industries just past Teapot Dome. They were the last customer past Hanson Logistics in Hartford.NS3322 wrote:Where was the reefer headed that day?

Re: West Michigan RR Abandonment Petition Coming
The DNR applauds these efforts, and negotiations with WMRR have included discussions that the reactivated corridor will allow for both rail and trail activities where possible. Except, between Mileposts 25.1 and 26.5. Here, the previous owners of the WMRR sold the corridor, but that sale was made, ...

I was wondering about WPP too but is the loading dock track still there? It appears to still be in place and have multiple cars on it according to Google Maps and Street View. https://www.google.com/maps/place/White+Pigeon+Paper+Co/@41.7892803,-85.6484665,175m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x22b3b8ab...

Re: Holland to GR Commuter Train Study
Moving the Pere Marquette to a Kalamazoo routing is a no-brainer. Once West Olive is done the line from Porter to Holland is toast. You should also take into account that coal is not the only thing that runs on this line. This line is the only connection for the Michigan Shore and the West Michigan...

Re: Holland to GR Commuter Train Study
Run a train to Kazoo to meet up with the high speed trains...to Chitown and Detroit. I agree that a commuter train from GR to Kalamazoo would be a great idea but I don't see a feasible way for them to implement this anytime in the future. Surely the Grand Elk is not fit for passenger service withou...

I found a website that listed all of these from 2013 which is the latest year I could find. I probably should have put that in my original post.

Re: WMI Reconstruction?
According to multiple documents from the Surface Transportation Board the DNR keeps getting 6 month renewals to try to make the abandoned portion of this line into a rail trail. The documents also show that there is about a half mile (the area right in front of the houses on Lake Cora) of the ROW th...
