Re: busiest freight route into chicago
Sorry my bad, the jurisdiction of Elmhurst ends and the yard is technically in Berkeley, though you can still see it from Elmhurst station.

Re: busiest freight route into chicago
UP's Geneva sub. Real good, every time I've went there has been lots of UP freights mainly I'd guess because of the intermodal terminal out in Rochelle and the yard in Elmhurst. Yard in Elmhurst? Is there something near Elmhurst besides Metra's yard/facility? Yeah, UP has a small yard as the Milwau...

Re: trains along the CSX toledo branch
I go to BG, here is the updated train list and Approximate arrival times. Q131: 1 am - 3 am normally. "Never caught yet" Q132-1/Q132-2: This is always random. Could show up at midnight, seen it at 10 am, seen it at 5pm, seen it at 8pm. They are both all the way from Salem IL, so there always is a hi...

Re: busiest freight route into chicago
My experience with nearby freight service that's good. BNSF racetrack: good on weekday evenings, once the metra rush is over, they often push a bunch of freights down the line. Weekends have decent amount of freights, I'd go in the afternoon to evening as that's when I've had the most luck. BNSF sou...

Re: New locomotives will cut Amtrak travel time from Chicago
Do they take the Rock and get on the UP Joliet sub to st Louis or do they take the Heritage Corridor "CN Joliet sub" and then continue. Or do they take a completely different route now.

Re: Peoria
Peoria also has Iowa Interstate's Peoria sub. It appears to not really be to busy, it runs pass one of the cross country courses that I ran at in High school. Out of the 5 times I've been here, I saw two freights, one at 7:00 lead by two Union Pacific Dash-9s "Ironically this was the first train I s...

Heritage Corridor freight service
The Heritage corridor, also known as CN's Joliet sub, is a run from Chicago to Joliet that is owned by Canadian National, though the trackage continuous, beyond Joliet is owned by Union Pacific and continues all the way to St. Louis. I mainly want to use this thread to talk about if any of you know ...

Toledo Branch line
The Toledo Branch line was originally owned by the "western branch of the T&OC and then owned by NYC, PC, then CR. CSX didn't acquire it until the 1999 merger." - Thanks Brett, it is now owned by CSX railroad. The line still sees daily action from trains heading to and from Toledo. On average about ...
