Re: CSX Train Location Updates - March 2024

This is a question, Was that G801 the first grainer to use the Grand Rapids sub in 10 years? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of any in Michigan going west of Grand Rapids in a long time. G126 ran last year or so as well on the Grand Rapids sub. Okay, prior to G801 and G126, when was the last time we ...

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - March 2024

Do you ever see the huge 326s, or do you only ever comment on the abnormally small ones? I grew up near Fargo, ND, where BNSF’s northern transcon mains cross. Dozens of trains a day and every one 100+ cars. Even the local shortline usually ran trains bigger than today’s 326. So I just find it comic...

Didn’t catch the numbers so I can’t confirm, but the leader has shiny new paint and the DPU is mid-train.

The engineer gave quite a horn salute to someone shortly before Glenlord. This happens fairly often. I suspect an employee of the doggy daycare must often be out there with the doggos, waving at the train.

A little excitement in Saint Joe a little after 5 pm… the Manitowac was coming in with a load of stone and one of its bow thrusters malfunctioned. The Bridge Mechanic was inspecting the bridge a bit ago. He didn’t see anything noteworthy at first glance, and gave the bridge tender the go ahead to c...

A little excitement in Saint Joe a little after 5 pm… the Manitowac was coming in with a load of stone and one of its bow thrusters malfunctioned. The boat wound up pinned diagonally, with the bow against the seawall and the stern rubbing against the fenders of the Saint Joe Bridge. After about 20 m...

It will be interesting to see if it has passengers aboard. It’s not showing on the status map, and the Amtrak website shows it in Service Disruption.

As of 22:30 ET, Amtrak P370 looks to be parked in Porter siding on the NS @ CD482.5, near the Mineral Springs Rd Crossing. Re: Amtrak 355 accident-New Buffalo

The database was down so nobody knew what to do. Such a shame. For reasons exactly like this, the police dispatcher shouldn’t be using a database. The standard practice should be for the officer or caller on the scene to read the info on the blue sign. Eliminates errors like this.

P371 by EE Sawyer CG104.6 at 8:31, not sure if anyone noticed but the cafe car is actually a Northeast Regional Cafe Car! They must be out of serviceable cafe/business class cars. For one round trip, starting with P370-27, they substituted a baggage car (CSX now has a 16 axle minimum for passenger)...

I think he is going on about the fact there was a drastic change to the Hamilton Northwestern Last fall and no one has stated the facts about it, what it’s present state is, or what it’s future is on this website. As of August 2023, CSX now restricts all passenger trains (excluding CSX’s own OCS and track geometry trains) with 16 axles or less to 30 mph. You may now start seeing extra cars on 370 and 371.
Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

M326 passing 91.9 now. Has locomotives at front and rear, with 10 double stacks at the head end (10 wells=2 cars?). Puny train, but I’m at work and can’t listen to scanner. Tom can report axles.
