As of 09:30 a pair of westbound CN manifest trains are sitting at the west end of Battle Creek Yard, each with a BCOL C40-8M second out, both with SD70M-2 leaders and one with a standard cab SD60 trailing.

Any updates on D701? Been sitting at Thornapple for the last 2 hours and haven't heard jack on the radio 'bout it.

Re: Chargers Inbound for Chicago
Just saw on TO that a pair of Siemens Chargers are heading east on the California Zephyr to Chicago, 4608 and one other, as yet unidentified. I'm guessing they'll be going to Chicago for trials and then put into revenue service sometime in the next few months? Zach 4609 is the other one. From what ...

Barriers are up on the parking lot on the south side of the tower. Had to park a ways back and walk in.

Re: Quick Questions
CN Police have been professional and friendly. Only time I really had a negative experience was with a CSX guy (don't know his position, but was not a cop, but definitely an employee, maybe train master?) in Walbridge. I was still a little kid but from what my father told me he was very hostile and...

Re: Quick Questions
Ok this has turned into a "general Indiana Railfanning Info" thread more than a few quick questions, but how many trains on average use the CN Matteson Subdivision during the morning hours? Debating on whether or not to go there or up to the Garrett sub before trying to catch 851.

Re: Quick Questions
If you're interested in the South Shore, of course the street running (11th St.) in Michigan City is interesting. Their freight usually departs westward from the Carroll Ave shops in the morning. Highway 12 pretty much follows the tracks west to Gary. Ogden Dunes station is a good spot to sit. Lots...

1) How busy is the CSX Monon Subdivision? ...are there any consistently scheduled trains that run on the line between Dyer and Lafayette, The Q642 usually follows the Amtrak out of Indianapolis at 6am, and gets to NWI whenever it gets there- often in the early afternoon. It waits behind the 3 Floyd...

Re: Quick Questions
How accessible is the South Shore along the Indiana Toll Road from the south side of the tracks? If everything goes according to plan I may be in the area for an eastbound on that section after the Hoosier State departs Dyer (dependent of course on whether or not it's on time) but if it isn't, or i...

Re: Quick Questions
I realize railroad police are real cops in all states. I was talking about private security guards who approach you on a public street and start with the "lemme see your camera" crap, or "delete your pics", or "get out of here". Like the Marathon goons, or other private rent a cops. I am well aware...

Re: Quick Questions
The first thing you should do with corporate hired goons, is tell them "show me some ID that gives you police authority on a public street", or get lost. Because right now you are impersonating a police officer and that's a felony"! They don't have to say they are police. When they accost a citizen...

One more question, how accessible is the area around CP 502? Not Pine Junction, but the area right around the Arcelor Mittal plant in East Chicago. Zach Yeah...Hick. Fun. Story time! D900 crew cabbed back to GR while 106 came west with SD60I 8749 leading longhood forward, CW44AC 106, SD50-2 2496, 2316 and 6939 and 8 cars. Weir...

Re: Radio question from a radio newbie
Or, if you want dual-watch capacity, letting you listen to multiple frequencies at the same time, the Icom IC-R20 is a godsend. While I don't have one out here, as I left it back in California with my father, I have a Uniden BC100XLT (in my opinion a better constructed and superior but cheaper model...
