Re: Yuma

I wondered if they would reopen. I just read an article that said frack sand prices are way up, and supply is short. This might bode well for the closed down Omnitrax shortline that runs to the sand mines in Brady, Tx.

Thanks. I can see it now on the map. It is pretty well hidden by dirt and grass.

CCET adds another customer to the line. McCoy lumber in Peebles is shipping raw cross ties once again by rail.
Where are they loading, on the main? Google Maps does not show any siding at their facility.

Re: Huge potash mine for Evart?

If this is an actual "Railtrail" situation, then the railroad has the legal right to relay rail and use the ROW anytime they so desire. If it was not a designated "railtrail", then it is anybody's guess as to how the deal might have been written up.

Re: Yuma

One big problem with places like Yuma, is that many more types of sand can be used for fracking, than was previously thought. Many specialty sand companies have gone out of business, as more types of sand are found to be suitable for fracking. Brady, Texas used to ship thousands of carloads of frack...

Re: Another train derailment

I have friends at 2 large derailment contractors. I know both were working at the MN. derailment. I think both headed to this derailment as soon as they were released at the one in MN. All the big derailment contractors are making lots of money this year already.

Re: AA Dundee to Milan

The Dundee cement plant is long gone and all the plant has been demolished, except for some cement storage silos. LaFarge is producing crushed limestone at the old pit. If there is rail activity there, it is cement for transload at the silos, or perhaps crushed rock is being shipped out. So, that is...

Re: Belpre Industrial Parkersburg Railroad

Thanks for the great video. That area is my old stomping ground. Grew up in Marietta, worked my way through college at Globe, then worked on engineering projects at the old UCC Electromet plant later on. Looks like a good sized train for Globe. Do you know how often they go up to Globe each week? Ba...

Ok, my info was pretty old. So, maybe the lines owner is using it, or has plans to use it. I will have to check that trackage out when I go up there later this summer.

I think No. 47 went to the Indiana Northeastern. The operation at Byesville has been shut down for years, and never had a GP7 that I know of.

Re: Belpre Industrial Parkersburg Railroad

I grew up in Marietta and worked at a couple of the plants served by the railroad. It seems to me like the new shortline should have a good business base. They have the chemical plant in Belpre, the carbon black plant, the ferro alloy and chemical plants south of Marietta, the old BF Goodrich plant ...

Belpre Industrial Parkersburg Railroad

Anyone heard anything about this new operation. It seems to be owned by Bucyrus Railcar Repair. They are supposed to take over the old B&O from Parkersburg, into Belpre, and up through Marietta to the Globe Metallurgical plant at Relief. I wondered when it will take over, and what their motive power...

Re: CN Derailment in Port Huron Tunnel

A friend of mine in the derailment business said this was a bad one. He said Cranemasters, Hulcher and Winters were all involved in the cleanup. Possibly Corman also, but not sure of that. He said a lot of walking was involved in that mess just to get personnel in to the wreck.

The only quarry that shows on Google maps, is the one west of town. It does have a fairly large rail loading area. Who's line is it that they connect to?

Re: Sale of CSX branch through Marietta to Relief

Thanks. I had not heard of anything either. Seems like it might make a good little shortline, what with the Carbon Black plant, the former Union Carbide metals and chemicals plants, the old BF Goodrich plant and the Globe Metals plant. Plus, I believe it is all welded rail, clear up to the former AE...

Sale of CSX branch through Marietta to Relief

I read some months ago, where the CSX wants to sell the Marietta line. Has anyone heard if any shortline operators are interested in this branch since the big power plant closed at Relief, Ohio?

Re: Sargent Sand Co.

The newspaper article says it did not affect much of the plant. Just a small shed with a sand feeder hopper, an adjacent conveyor belt, and a little damage at the top of the dryer building. Sounds like they might be down a few weeks at most.
