Re: Ohio Rail Plan 2017

I'm just taking a stab, but losing the Peavine is leaving a big hole in the region as a whole. If left completely intact and upkept to minimal standards could it not be brought back in the future fairly easy? Stretch out the cost and do the upgrades slowly and over time. Work on the closed section ...

Re: NS Peavine talk

Come on people. All Rail lines will have "formers" on them eventually. Look at what has happened in the past 40 to 50 years. Thousands of rail lines abandoned and its only going to get worse. Tax's, trucking, interstate highways, and airlines are killing the railroads slowly. Another ten to twenty y...

Re: Toledo - bridge over NS featuring MDH

Love how they jump all over NS saying their bridges are poorly maintained and are in danger of falling down. If that idiot only knew just how much the FRA requires for inspections of bridges. Most highway bridges would not pass FRA standards. NS lets rail lines and bridges rot then abandon them. it...

Re: NS Peavine talk

The latest information I have on the Peavine as of 1/26 is the far east end of the Peavine the Vera bridge and anything past the 80 mile marker east will be officially terminated. There will be no more rail operations on that side of the Peavine. I did receive this information from a creditable sou...

Re: NS Peavine talk

I have noticed that the tracks are starting to show some rust down here at Clare Yard the last few days. Not much moving in the yard the last two weeks. Haven't seen many empty tankers the last two weeks coming from the west. Looks like business must be slowing down on storage. Man, and here I was ...

Re: NS Peavine talk

Although the idea of a commuter train is a far fetched idea it is still be looked at very closely. There is a plan in place the Boathouse is the final destination on the track and from there Cincinnati Metro will bus to various locations downtown. The old PRR tracks which do intersect with the I&O ...

Re: NS Peavine talk

Sorry been out of the country for the past week just sat down at my computer and was looking at the forum pages. Heypal you may have a point about the commuter rail. Was talking with the Mayor of Newtown before I left and there has been some rumblings about commuter rail since 32 and 50 are becomin...

Re: NS Peavine talk

I'm not sure what all of you are looking at, but the Wasson Way Project will go over Wooster Rd then go between Clare Yard and Miami Bluff Rd then along Miami Run then in front of Kroger's or behind then hook up with the Little Miami bike path at Newtown Rd. The path will be well away from Clare Yar...

From my understanding, it's the grain company out in Winchester. (Winchester AG Services)

Re: NS Peavine talk

Cincinnati Barge & Rail down by the Boathouse loads 45-60 loads of pig iron for the steel mill in northern Ohio plus gets a few loads of lumber a month. On top of that there's a Kinder Morgan chemical terminal on Kellogg. .... I know the city of Cincinnati is trying to force that line to close from...

Re: NS Peavine talk

I went to a party in Cincinnati on saturday and cruised down Route 62 out of Columbus and followed it all the way to Russellville Ohio where I caught 125 west. At Macon where 62 meets up with Route 32 and the Peavine just to the south of the intersection. I'm sorry but everything..ROW, signals, rai...

Re: NS Peavine talk

Surely the one from Mullskinner is just a slam on the Peavine. Don't read it the wrong way Northstar. I'm making fun at Midland. Hoosier Valley Rail Museum wants to run excursions?! Where? Not on the Peavine! Common, that's as ludicrous as what I said about GE. Midland needs to post that where its ...

I heard the Hoosier Valley Rail Musuem wants to run excursions but the person that knows won't share the info..... LOL! Yeah, and I heard General Electric wants to build a spur off the Peavine in Adams County so they can ship/receive there engines by rail, but the person who knows this won't share ...

"If they build it, they will come".

It will take money to build/rebuild a spur and facility to off load. Who is going to come up with that money?

Re: NS Peavine talk

Frontier's niche is making money storing cars. Bare minimum will be spent on track work. Let's be frank without the car storage the line is dead. Hyumataki and Winchester together don't generate enough revenue for anyone to operate the line. It is what it is. The glory days of the line were back in...

Re: NS Peavine talk

The attitude that NS has towards lines such as the Peavine makes me wonder why railroads 30-40 years ago didn't have similar attitudes. If you mothball a line the infrastructure is left behind with little to no maintenance and could be reactivated if money and traffic demands it. Saluda and the Wes...

Re: NS Peavine talk

Sarcasm..... Who knows whenever NS will get around to abandoning east of Plum Run, but as we've beat this dead horse into a pile of bones it just won't go away. Oh, it's going away, actually its being taken over by mother nature. trees and weeds are now starting to take over the line east of Plum. ...
