Re: Sharonville Yard Question

Thank you Midland for the history. It's interesting that now with trains having to pull out across Sharon Rd/ Cincinnati Dayton that it can cause a lot of problems for traffic in the area.

Re: Sharonville Yard Question

I got part of the answer to my questuon, and it was when Conrail got rid of the Westbound classifaction yard they also removed the receiving tracks as well. As to why they got rid of it. It was a section of track that was no longer needed due to the fact that it wasn't connected to what became the n...

From what I can gather is that these tracks were the receiving tracks for the hump yard. So they were probably taken up when the yard was turned into a flat switch yard.

Re: Sharonville Yard Question

I would say back in late 70s. Think that rail merged into the main that NS uses now up north from Sharonville? I know for a fact it was after 1984 as the company's property that I work for ends at what was the old right of way. And in our plant building we have a picture of the plant in 1984 and th...

Re: NS Stack Train question

That's odd because in Cincinnati its Westbounds and Northbounds are even number, and Eastbounds and Southbounds are odd. Case in point would be 170 Chattanooga, Tennessee to Conway, Pennsylvania (which would be a Northbound and its counterpart 169 Conway Pennsylvania to Chattanooga, Tennessee (South...

Re: NS Stack Train question

Down here in Cincinnati on the Norfolk Southern all westbound trains are even numbered like 216 (intermodal. Alanta Georgia, to Chicago Illinois.). So it makes since that the intermodal train if it was 24R would be a westbound.

Re: IORY South End Part Five

I dont know if it's news or not, but a few days ago the I&O turn that takes cars to the NS at Sharonville what looked like a former Kansas City Southern Gray SD40-2. Other then that I haven't heard/ seen anything new.

Re: IORY South End Part Five

Ferrell Gas's spur is gone, and has been for at least 10 years. Midland's right about G&W and the Cincinnati Railway Company about them not getting along. I have heard that when G&W took over the went to a meeting of the Cincinnati Railway Company to talk to them, and get the idea of what the operat...

Re: IORY South End Part Five

If G&W doesn't want to move the cars, why wouldn't they let the Cincinnati Railway do it? (Make an exception is what I mean)[/quote] Midland please correct me if I'm wrong, but when the Indiana and Ohio was sold to Railtex, and the Cincinnati Railway Company was created the paperwork for the lease i...

Re: IORY South End Part Five

Does anyone know if freight service ever returned to Lebanon as part of the LM&M Railroad deal? No there is no freight to Lebanon. There was a company at one point that wanted to ship by rail; however the story I was told that G&W told them to go ask Cincinnati Railway Company, and they can't haul ...

Re: Collision in Marysville

The contractor at Scotts left the switch open and H711 entered the switch at speed according to a well informed person. The contractor was able to use the main to access either side of the plant. At NBC 4 there's an overhead shot oh scene and you can see one of the locos they use off to the right o...

Re: NS Peavine talk

It's sad to see the Peavine go. I missed the days when NW ran on the line. If the railroads where funded by the government, we wouldn't see all these lines closing, BUT it is what it is. Eventually the railroad will chock themselves out & everything will be RAILS-TO-TRAILS in 50 years. All you will...

Norfolk Southern Through Chillicothe

I'm heading to Chillcothe early Saturday morning to do railfanning, and my main question is what is a typical Saturday train count for the Norfolk Southern? Also what are some good locations to do railfanning of the Norfolk Southern through Chillcothe?
Thanks Railfan9

Part of it is open and used to haul freight from Clare yard in Cincinnati to Winchester and is operated by Cincinnati East Terminal Railway.
