Re: New Connection in New Buffalo AMTK.

The article was more about the ability of Twin Cities folks being able to connect from St. Joe to NewBuff and then connecting to Wolverine Service eastward. As I replied to the Trains article, there is but one train in the early morning and one in the mid evening...making connections somewhat...prob...

Re: Frankfort Question

The cherry cannery and I believe Harris Pie were the last two customers. Lasted until the whole thing came up well after ferry service stopped. Last loads were reefers of cherries etc, etc. Or maybe it was frozen pies. Last loads were in ATSF diesel powered refrigerator cars IIRC.

Re: Spur in Fillmore, Hamilton Branch Q&A

Worse track? Quantified by either, are we still on the rail or nope we're on the ground. The covered hopper we were sent to unload rocked off the rail. Crew was going 12MPH. "But that's only 2 over the limit!" No its 20% over the limit. IIRC it was an orange IC hopper. The unloader/vacuum came from ...

Re: Spur in Fillmore, Hamilton Branch Q&A

I have posted this before but we took a small covered hopper load of oyster shells down there one time. They used to get an occasional propane and perhaps a nitrogen or ammonia or two from time to time...but that's gone over to Waylaid. Used to get an occasional carload of lumber too. I had made it ...

Re: Spur in Fillmore, Hamilton Branch Q&A

The tank cars may have been for Tallow. IIRC they loaded tallow in Hamilton at one time. Not to jump ship too much, but when did the Co-op last get liquid fertilizer and why did they stop receiving it? Some older photos showed tank cars in Hamilton and I haven't seen any go down the line in a few y...

Re: White Pigeon Grain Trains

If it goes to a receiver on NS it will go NS. If it goes to a receiver on CSX it will go CSX. Railroads are loathe to interchange if they don't have to and cut contracts to reflect same.

Re: GDLK Operations

The problem with that lurker is the railroad getting PAID. If da paperwork ain't showing up correctly the bill ain't getting paid either. I just did it for spite. 8-)

So what does a terrorist vs a railfan look like? Expand your hypothesis please. To the trained and untrained they all look the same.

Re: GDLK Operations

So I do some more digging on my own this afternoon. After shipping multiple cars to the customer, the mill used the wrong customer code for these 2 cars. I just emailed the conclusion of my investigation to NS and the customer to send to the mill. We'll see how long before they move. They are still...

Q32924 by Howell at 08:52 with 449+5243+2692 and 76 cars. Have not seen 2692 since 6-28-13 when it was the trailing unit on Q33413 out of GRP. Q32824 went east at 08:15 with 425+3232 and 147 cars. Last 40 or so were stone empties to go with another 30 or so on 328 yesterday. 329 had a few stone loa...

And last but not least down there...on the Madison/28th corner was a GE Distribution warehouse with a siding along the east side of the building hard by Madison. Don't remember if the doors or any evidence of that is still there. That's not even speaking of what was south of 32nd Street down to 36th...

Re: Michigan Rail Business news

They did seriously look at rebuilding the line from White Cloud thru Fremont to accommodate coal trains for Cobb. North from GR then west at White Cloud.
Late 70's was the time period. More then just sandhouse talk. Nothing ever came of it beyond the drawing board though.

Re: Michigan Rail Business news

I remember getting a few pressure unloader hoppers of fly ash for Boichot Cement in Lansing. Way back in the 90's when I was doing the 336/337 thingy. They came out of a power plant down on the Illinois, Indiana border south of Terre Haute IIRC.
