Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Indiana Highrail did the same to the Cloverleaf in Van Wert County. When I lived in Ohio City Norfolk and Western would roll through town at 15- 20 mph track was clear of brush and good shape. Then highrail took over, it was not long before they could barely make it to Delphos in one day, because of...

I was outside taking my break heard the horn thought I would see a oil train, but out from the corner of the factory in to my line of sight four cover wagons two A units and two B units with long set of passenger car d...

Re: Delphos Ohio ?
Made a trip to Delphos today. While crossing the tracks to D&D at State Rd, I saw contractors leveling out ground next to old track prepping for another track.
The contractor was working from State Rd west to D&D facility.

I am not a young pup, I remember NW rolling thru Ohio City at a respectable 30 ish MPH,also Drove truck for the fellow who started Spencerville and Elgin RR. The first trip west involved digging out tar patch at the crossings. Thankfully these two segments of track have survived.

D&D get a lot of rail cars from CFE and have built up a large yard to move them around. Hopefully my pixs from January at State rd load ok usually would catch CFE there around 3 to 5 O clock.

Re: Everything/Anything CF&E thread...Part 3
Yes, miscalculating the amount of thermal contraction or expansion can create a failure. In the southwest slow orders are issued during high temps. Rails expand creating a chance of rail spread, but haven't been a lot of reports of trains falling off the tracks. One other point, if now is not the ti...

Re: Everything/Anything CF&E thread...Part 3
How will the weather create a broken rail?, if the rail is not supported properly its logical that it would lead to a broke rail. The temperature needed to make the rail brittle would be hard to attain with out using a heat treat furnace, and quench tank (I teach Metallurgy). The track work had to b...
