Re: NS Starts new steam program!!!
Ok guys, I am not actually complaining about the environmental impact of the steam locomotives. I understand that one locomotive (or even 100) would emit negligible amounts of pollution to the environment compared to the overall human race's impact. I do live in Ann Arbor, but I am not as radical ab...

Re: Ann arbor railroad time table
Owlcaboose, I don't think so. Last I heard, trains would run from Howell to where the GLC ownership of the line ends, which is just east (timetable north) of the Barton drive crossing north of Ann Arbor. The Ann Arbor railroad refuses to run any kind of passenger trains at all, so I doubt that they ...

Canadian Pacific "Expressway" service
I have been reading about CP's "expressway" service between Montreal and Detroit that used to exist. I believe the service is still in place between Montreal and Toronto. Why did the service to Detroit cease? It seems like a service that is open to any kind of trailer and any trucking company would ...

Great article Scooterb. Few realize these facts, and any information to enlighten people to the truth of the United States' transportation system is great, no matter what your political ideals are.

That indicates nothing but a need for new freight rail, and China's booming growth. Get used to it.

Was he a "bigger" guy? I had some footage of him walking away, but my darn video camera f'ed me today. Most shots were cloudy and too close anyway. But yeah, I'm guessing meth.

Re: NS locations comprable to Deshler/Fostoria
Swanton was good, probably worth going back. Great view of approaching trains, and no real problems with people, other than the tattoo covered drug addict who said his Uncle or something made $600,000/yr working for the railroad, mostly because the uncle was gone for months at a time. But overall a ...

Re: NS locations comprable to Deshler/Fostoria
Thanks for all of the locations. Looks like NSSD70M-2 and I will be heading down to Swanton tomorrow for a day trip. Swanton looks good from the air, and it's close enough to Toledo that we could also check out some other locations without driving too far.

Re: CSX N. Baltimore Hub "Taking Shape" - update
Apparently they aren't aware that Detroit will see TOFC again either, although that only adds like 2 trains/day, right? Unless I missed something where did you get that from? Last I knew North Baltimore was going to be container only. I also dont think because of New Boston, CSX in Detroit will all...

Re: CSX N. Baltimore Hub "Taking Shape" - update
The terminal is projected to generate 2,600 "spin-off" jobs over the next 10 years, and due to double-stacked trains - where containers are placed one on top of another - it is not anticipated that the terminal will cause a substantial increase in north-south train traffic or of trains coming into ...

Has anybody been to /heard of this? I'm assuming this is the CHI line.
Edit: The writer of this may be a member of this board, since he ends each piece with "dlm." I think we have a "dlm" on here as well.

NS locations comprable to Deshler/Fostoria
I am a very lazy person when it comes to going out and watching trains. I am really more interested in just "being around the railroad," not taking photos and videos. To me, there is no better place to do that than Deshler, because you can stay at one location the entire time, and read a book, etc, ...

Re: Why no transload in TC?
Mr TSB has some good points, CN has inter-modal service across Michigan, On the Flint and Holly Subs that meet at Durand and the GLC goes right through there. Boy that would be nice. To bad Mr P J Dewolfe has passed on he could share his thoughts with us to, I'm sure Mr TSB would agree. There is no...

If I had $5,495.00 to spend on models, than that would definitely be my first choice. I guess I'll just stick to the amazing youtube videos of them for now.

Re: Why no transload in TC?
How much business is there left on the line north to Petoskey? I don't think a lot. I can actually see (down the road) abandoning north of Cadillac and setting up a large transload facility there. If not Cadillac, then it could be located south of the northernmost customer that ships enough cars to ...

Does anybody know what this coal is used for? I am guessing it is just used to generate heat for some kind of pharmaceutical process, but I am VERY surprised that natural gas isn't used instead. Very interesting.

BNSF line from Ft. Madison, IA to the end of the Southern Transcon just east of Corwith Yard in Chicago is all the Chillicothe sub from what I understand. Kansas City-Ft. Madison, IA is the Marceline sub The "racetrack" (from where IC/CN ownership ends near Union Station to Aurora) is the Chicago su...
