Re: NS Peavine talk
NS has put a ton of coal cars back in service in the last 4 months. Plus there's been thousands scrapped and sold in the last 5-6 years. So there's not as many coal cars as you might think in storage at the moment.

Re: NS Stack Train question
In Portsmouth the north and westbound traffic all have odd numbers. While the south and eastbound traffic all have even numbers. There are some oddball coal trains that don't follow that model. But most of the trains in Portsmouth do.

Re: NS Peavine talk
Lots of rail out here east is in still good looking shape. Otway and rarden has lots of good looking track. Most of the signals have been shot up and looted along with just about everything else. N.s. Does trim the trees to high rail it. I was told by the workers in Wendy's in lucasville. At one ti...

There's good and bad with the railroad unions. Some are better than others and some are just downright terrible. But I still wouldn't want to work for NS or any class one without a union.

Free pass is directed to the numerous fellow hobbyist that have placed NS on a pedestal due to the American Chopper paint schemes and the steam program. Several of us having been pointing out the numerous missteps of NS in the past 3 plus years and every time were shouted down as heretics. Wick cas...

Re: NS Peavine talk
Yep Saluda is supposed to be grouped with the Peavine. The better question is when they do something with the WV Sec. Last week was supposed to see the last 380/381 run. I've heard the rumors on the secondary. And wouldn't shock me if they come true. Although I think one of the reasons it's stayed ...

Re: NS Peavine talk
I think you saw one of the CFE locos or maybe one of the orange painted G&W locos. The I&O has't had anything from the AA recently (if ever), especially if it was in the Cincy area there would have been a foam fest. Didn't WATCO get rid of one or two of the AA GP38s a couple of years ago? You might...

Re: NS to idle Ashtabula coal docks
Bellevue is a mess. The yard wasn't originally built to handle the amount of traffic it does now. You are correct ! And that's why they spent $160,000,000 to increase capacity And yet the only real capacity they increased was the classification yard. They didn't do much it anything to the receiving...

Re: NS Peavine talk
Here's the issue though. Yea NS doesn't wants a merger with anyone. Especially Harrison and CP. But money talks. And the shareholders at NS would be much more easily swayed if the money is right. And with CP trying to convince our shareholders that NS management is incompetent. Who knows what will h...

Re: NS Peavine talk
The IHB is part of it. But there's alot more to it than just the IHB. Hunter has cut as deep as he can cut at CP. All those cuts will catch up to them eventually. Plus he won't have any more cuts to use to prop up their stock price. So acquiring NS will allow him to continue his strategy of cutting ...

Re: NS Peavine talk
Do you really think CP is going to merge with NS? I can't get my hands around that one. I know CP wants them really bad but the red tape involved is tremendous to say the least. Total approval is unlikely on the entire package deal, shareholders will not go along with the new deal, and there are ju...

That doesn't surprise me in the secondary. Many of us have wondered why they've kept it open this long with as little traffic as has been on it in the last 5 years or so.

They've layed off 56 carman in Portsmouth. Haven't touched maintenance of way yet. Only thing I've heard for transportation in Portsmouth is that they cut the extra boards. I know they layed off 3 carmen, 3 laborers, and 2 electricians in Williamson today. Layed off 5 carmen in Buffalo wednesday. Th...

The Pocahontas division is gone. I do know that. Not sure what other divisional realignments are being planned. But the pokey is going to be merged into the lake and Virginia divisions early next year. As for the 1000 miles of lines NS is looking to get rid of. Bit. I haven't heard of any lines bein...

When you attack and talk down to people in the same condescending manner as you did after my first post on this page it certainly makes it seem like your intent is indeed to make people look or feel stupid. And CSX Co I understand your point that respect is earned in most cases. But what's the point...
