Re: Traverse City Spurs and Sidings

1) just south of Parsons Rd and Tamarack St. Spur goes south off the main and ends in the weeds. Google Street view actually shows a CSX Gon on this track in September 2023. Was this to customers between the line and the airport, or was this to the energy substation next to the spur. I have an old ...

Re: GLC Train Location Updates - October 2023

I got out of the house Saturday (rare event). I saw a box car sitting on the main I think near Beacon or somewhere around here in TC. Almost never see a box anymore here. Anyone else see it?

Re: GLC Train Location Updates - July 2023

I was in town (TC) yesterday, I don't get there too often lately. I saw that something had been thru the crossings because sand was pushed out of the flange tracks, looked pretty fresh. Anything been thru as of late?

The state is going to install railroad flashers at the Alba Highway & US131 intersection. It includes a stop light on US131 so when the train is approaching, the traffic can clear the tracks.
Thanks GP, makes sense as to the what was seen there.

Re: Great Lakes Central Updates - January 2023

My RR spy's tell me he saw a soil boring truck at US 131 and Alba rd. on the GLC tracks just off the rd. I've used this kind of service for testing the soil for it's capacity to hold a tall radio tower. I wonder what they were up to with this test?

Re: Amtrak through Dexter

I have noticed a couple times recently Amtrak has been running trains on the Michigan line with locomotives on both ends. I have not seen this in several years since they stopped using the cabbage car. Is the end loco running, maybe by radio control? The fuel source? You dont wanna know. Feel sorry...

Getting a little quiet in here. Is GLC still running up North. We have a lot of snow that needs some fresh tracks on the rails :)

Edit: where did the Fluffy W. D. come from??

393 and 385 ran 1 gon and 2 lumber up to Traverse City from Cadillac today.
I'm glad to see reports still coming in for TC. I've been gone for awhile in the hospital, then came home to a virus infected computer. Took a long time to get going again from scratch. Thanks guys.

They made a TC run today. Not sure what the engines are, but I can hear them passing the Career Tech Center. 12:47 I didn't hear or see them myself today. I had seen gravel and sand pushed out of the flange tracks on some of the Traverse City crossings Sunday afternoon, thought they had already bee...

Rail faning in Nashville

I plan to go to Nashville in a few weeks. We have some tickets to the Grand ole Opery to see some country shows, can anyone suggest some rail fan locations while I'm there?

I'll probably get beat up for saying this. Anything steam powered. Bunch of stink and smoke, hard to find a track to run them on, excursions are over rated. I'd rather be behind a modern diesel.

Question about the M-115 Yuma Branch crossing. GLC replaced one of the bells on the crossing. I'd always been under the impression that that line was no longer used or maintained. This waste of time and money seems to happen often. Take the Grawn branch, they rebuilt the county road crossing in Gra...

Just got back from a couple night stay at the Kingsley. Was talking to Chi Easton, the manager. She said that it only took six weeks and that railfan bookings kept the Inn ...
