Re: Ft. Madison, Iowa
I did a full weekend there, however it's because I have family a few minutes from the tracks, I'd say however from the reviews the kingsley inn is probably your best bet. It's very busy too, I saw 56 trains in two days Dave, thanks for the post. I've taken my trip to there and back. Was quite a goo...

C&O, since you worked for them for some time, do you know why all the rail traffic seems to be going slow in this area?C&O Dispatcher wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 2:02 pm
I worked for BNSF for about 7 years including 2 years in Ft Worth doing remote clerical work for locals in Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska -- among other places.

Re: Ft. Madison, Iowa
The first track from the hotel is the BNSF Hannibal Sub (also known as the K-Line) that runs from Burlington, IA to St Louis. Although it runs compass N-S, the BNSF considers it E-W with toward St Louis as westward. There are mostly coal trains and a local on that line. The next two mains that cros...

Re: Ft. Madison, Iowa
The cameras are mounted on the Kingsley Inn. 60 trains/day may be on the low side. We stayed there for a couple days last fall. Very nice place and pretty reasonable. They give a 10% discount if you mention Virtual Railfan. Thanks Mark. Yes watching on the rail cam I see it is quite busy there. Two...

Ft. Madison, Iowa
Has anyone stayed or did rail-fanning in Ft. Madison,Ia. ? I found a great rail cam https://youtu.be/-iqX8uiqz5A?list=PLR9jbUvWYuLtPyoHboYuD0MHQLp0YzD2t . I'm told they have up to 60 trains a day, with barge traffic on the Mississippi R. to watch as well. My wife and I plan to travel there in about ...

I’m going up to TC for a day this weekend, what days does TC see trains and what’s the best spot to see them? Good shots at Hammond rd. and River rd. where they go thru two short tunnels. Of course at the train station where you can get quite close to the tracks as they use the run around to go Eas...

Re: Where Is It?
Estcourt Maine, northern most point in Maine. At first thinking Minnesota, then thought Maine. Pulled up the map, and somehow found this about 20 seconds after loading the Google map app. It felt like I tapped into Google's "I'm feeling lucky" button. Luck it is to find such an obscure location in ...

Well darn CRD, I was in Florida all of March. Would have been fun to meet up with you again. I was in Kissimmee near Disney. I didn't get to see much rail as my wife did all the driving and doesn't like to stop. I did see the Auto Train in Sanford. FUN!

When you travel South on Cass Rd. go one drive past the Beacon sign. This leads to a small parking lot wit a much better view of the operations. I've never been bothered by anyone there.

They used to come here on a loose schedule Fridays or maybe a Thursday. But as of late they seem to come Friday or Saturday in the night. Best hint comes from the guys in Cadillac where they report the TC cars sitting there to come up here soon.

They created new RR crossings that need signs and lights, and how long would you have to blow the horn?

Re: Where Is It?
I moved into the TC area in the early 70's. I recall seeing an engine or two running that track in that area back to Traverse City about 1977 or so. I don't know what they were doing, maybe an inspection of the track about to be pulled up. Anyone else see that movement or know what it was doing?
