Re: Midland Turn Questions
I think what he meant about the line that went through Reese is it used to go into Bay City. It was cut back to Munger around 1976 or so. Okay, understood. Yeah, the Reese to Bay City was apparently completed in 1873 as the Detroit & Bay City Railroad, but was bought up by Michigan Central by 1881....

Re: Midland Turn Questions
I'd never heard "Midland Turn." Anyway, looks like the line from Saginaw to Midland was constructed as the Flint & Pere Marquette Railroad in December 1867 and from Midland to Ludington in stages by December 1874 eventually becoming just the PM, and the Bay City & Battle Creek was completed to Bay C...

Re: JAIL Sightings and Questions
Seven stub tracks and the two run around tracks were the ones added with the south one being the original Hollow Main. The three to the west were there prior to this with the north one being the original Hollow Main and the two to the south being Hollow 1, 2, 3 and 4. Wait, how do you get from thre...

Re: JAIL Sightings and Questions
I went and checked the city website parcel look-up, and, yep, General Motors owns New Hollow Yard. BTW, it looks like only 7 of the 9 stubs are in active use these days. The property on which the old Hollow Yard sits is still owned by NS.

They were luckier than most; everything east of the river was basically destroyed. Their latest Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/SanfordCentennialMuseum/ The museum took about a foot of water in all buildings. We're asking volunteers to help with clean up to arrive starting at 10 am today, Ma...

Something something Atlas Shrugged something something "rational self-interest" argle bargle.
So did Lansing's traffic go to Toledo, Chicago, or both? Probably not an easy way to figure this out aside from knowing it happened.

Re: JAIL Sightings and Questions
I guess they not only stayed at the same location, then, but kept the same company name. I guess that's what's confusing me. Interestingly on the "shipping info" part of the website, they only mention measurements "per truck load." I wonder if that's just a general measurement, or if it mean they ar...

Re: JAIL Sightings and Questions
The interchange with CN is at New Hollow Yard, right? You can get a quick view of it traveling down the southbound MLK bridge, but that's about it unless you're going to walk the bridge. You can get partial views of Old Hollow Yard, though, from Olds Avenue where it curves eventually becoming Clare ...

Re: Michigan gets additional grant money for KAL-DER
So, this is in addition to the tens-of-millions of dollars that have gone into projects up and down the line, already? I'm curious about which parts of the line - aside from the two bridges in Jackson - they are talking about that needs fixing? I imagine it must be the line west of Jackson, because ...

Re: Lansing's Old Town railroad spur to be reactivated
Time to jump start the rumor mill: Just before Memorial Day, the Old Town spur was clear cut from the csx south to at least below the North St crossing. I can't really think this means anything until you see more work on the southern end of the spur, which is the most interesting part. This part yo...

Re: Fiat- Chrysler Expansion
The city shouldn't be involved in building railroad infrastructure for Fiat-Chrysler, and it's my understanding that they are going to give FCA the land, thank god. It's going to be up to Chrysler what they want to do, rail-wise, over here and that's how it should be. I feel like maybe we're talking...

Stone yard in just north of Ensel on MLK Blvd. There is also a trackmobile that has been there for a while. The GP may have not been used recently, NS units are there, just drove by I take it "Stone Yard" must be the yard which backs up to Stoneco (https://stoneco.net/) which is just west of MLK? I'...

http://railroadfan.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=36375&p=411064&hilit=Chrysler#p411064 It sounds like since my last post that one of the large parcel of lands purchased was the old Budd Co. plant lands from the Morouns. They'd demolished part of the plant in 2017 and allowed Chrysler to use it for s...

Re: Adrian and Blissfield (CHS, DCRR, LIRR, JAIL) Q&A
I was under the impression that there was no active customers on the southwest branch, not even Quality Dairy. Is Quality Dairy still being serviced? All I've ever seen in recent years is storage of tank cars down by Reid Machinery.

Re: Adrian and Blissfield (CHS, DCRR, LIRR, JAIL) Q&A
Mid-morning to noon is, indeed, the best time to catch JAIL in Lansing during the day. There is parking all around the old Claras from its lots to the street, but none of it is free. Immediately east of the tracks on the northside of the street are three free parking spaces, and then all the way up ...

New FCA Mack Avenue Assembly in Detroit
FCA announced today that it transform Mack Avenue Engine Plants 1 & 2 into a new assembly plant on Detroit's east side, and also retool the Jefferson North immediately nearby for continued production of the Durango and Jeep Cherokee. They will combined Engine Plants 1 & 2 and build an expansion with...

AFAIK the one at Delta Township is Cory yard, and the one just east of there is Snow yard. I believe the one "downtown" is called Hollow yard. The CN timetable I have says the yard east of Nixon is Cory Yard. The one at Snow Road is Snow Yard. Thanks. Do you know if both parts I described are consi...
