Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
This is true, but no one expects cars to be stopped for a train on a 70 MPH expressway. All it takes is to look away for a second or the cars being out of gear and no brake lights on.
It is inherently quite dangerous.

Re: New Detroit River Tunnel "On Hold"
Basically any automotive plant has no warehouse and is planned for everything being just in time delivery. This is market share the railroads cannot nor ever will get back again because the model for them is simply not there anymore. The reduction in overhead far out weighs any cost gains from shipp...

The only thing they have done is buy some second hand standard trailers to supplement the roadrailer fleet. No decision has been made regarding which direction they are going to go and no new equipmen...

Last train north of Bryan aside from Jackson to Cement City was actually under PC in 1975. The line was torn out in 1976 though Hudson, Prattville, Waldron, , Alvordton, West Unity etc.

No through freights, locals from Toledo and Fort Wayne since the late fifties.
Traffic levels probably were not much different than they are today, maybe more ag traffic but most definitely not the Campbell's traffic or Lafarge traffic.
