Re: Laharpe Shops
Hearing PREX 907 might soon be leaving the Michigan Southern, any idea what might be replacing it? I haven't heard anything to that effect. was the engine shop built after tpw sold the line or was it a building there before? rob It was built after the purchase of the TP&W Laharpe-Sommer (Peoria) li...

Really just Laharpe. Some Pioneer Railroads have engine houses but no real shops.jrgerber wrote:Nice photo in Train's December 2017 issue on page 19 showing SW1500 PREX 1500 with a new paint job done at the Kolbe IL shop. How many shops for locomotive repairs does Pioneer have?

If it's not under the tracks there is a problem   Lol whats to tamp with hardly any ballast? A tamper will definitely do wonders to level out the ND&W. There actually is ballast if you know where to look... That was a dig at the foamers that continue to call it the world's worst ma...

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Are they running the Napoleon turn out of Napoleon every day now as opposed to starting in Defiance like they used to? Assuming that everything goes according to plan, the Napoleon train starts from Napoleon and meets the train from Cecil in Defiance around 11am or noon. That said, if the crew has ...

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Pioneer certainly has pulled that line out of the swamp, literally and figuratively. And I'll bet they have seen an uptick in business as a result, too. Lets not get too crazy. The track is better but still rough by shortline standards. The track isn't pretty, but it holds more than the MAW did. Th...

No real major projects I know of, but you can get a 21 car train the length of the railroad without derailment now.

GP9 105, GP16s 1601, 1603, 1606, and GP20 3054 form the ND&W's roster. 105 is in Gettysburg paint, the GP16s are in the older Pioneer paint without a logo, 3054 wears the newer Pioneer scheme with the diamond on the long hood.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Little late response but ND&W is currently doing a heavier than normal business in tomato paste; I understand there are roughly 60 cars inbound on the NS interchange alone. That should get dealt with this week...
Also; all the locomotives are supposed to be getting a bath this week.

Re: Pioneer RR Northern Indiana Lines Questions
Elkhart and Western's Elkhart DIv. uses PREX 911 (ex-MILW GP9) and 1000 (ex-IC GP10) for power. Crews come from MSO/White Pigeon or E&W/Argos depending on who's available. Right now MSO crews normally run the KT and Argos crew runs Elkhart; but they are all qualified to run on all 4 railroads. Tuesd...

Re: Laharpe Shops
Looks like they picked up an ex-CN GP9R That's 4101, it spent many years in the deadline awaiting shop attention. She got all new power assemblies, and various other work. She's a good runner, if known for not playing well with the GP20s (4101 has a more modern load regulator, and loads faster). Si...

Re: Laharpe Shops
Thanks Bubly, as I recall Pioneer got most of their GP-16 fleet for about 35-40k per engine. The GP-20s I recall were about $67k-$85k per engine. I think if I read your comment right (and correct me if I am wrong) but it the GP-16s are the most reliable in the fleet? I know Pioneer has a sprinkling...
