Re: Can-opener in South Bend, IN.

It looks like they are unloading the truck into the one behind it. That will raise it a couple inches and jam it in there real good. They should have loaded a few of those concrete freeway median barriers into the truck, and they could have backed it right out. Eh, you make the bottom ...

Re: Grand Trunk in Saginaw/ Bay City Question

I grew up in the township. Right next to the line that went to Paines. I remember the Chessie units with a mix of grain and scrap gons running west, then them coming back with just the gons. My only other experience from that time frame would have been the dubious chemical trains running to midland...

Re: Fueling NS in Chicago

I wonder why Illinois or any other state can tax railroads for fuel when they don't use the roads. You could say those taxes are used to build highways that competing trucks drive on. Road taxes aren't the only taxes you pay on fuel. The sales tax in parts of Illinois, and especially in certain par...

Re: Saginaw Area Questions

That is Gavilon Grain, which is served by LSRC. Trains going to Gavilon first head south at Mershon, then back across the diamond on HESR tracks before reaching the spur switch just north of Stoker Road. [/quote] No one anymore. As it stands, HESR & LSRC both switch Gavilon Grain. LSRC does majorit...

Re: More Transformers Needed

Wonder what they are using the frac water tanks for? Standard operating procedure in any transformer yard where you are dealing with water. There is potential for contamination in the groundwater. it is containerized until sampling determines it is clean. If it is not clean it will be hauled to a t...

Re: Michigan Rail Business news

I find it both amazing and sad that you have this huge plot of land that could be rebuilt and repurposed to provide jobs for hundreds to thousands of people, but yet nothing seems to be going on there until this relatively small project. I know there have been proposals for the land, but you would ...

Heads up Durand railfans you have a southbound HESR headed your way the 2028 solo and two cars both CH's. If it were anyone else posting this I'd think this is a joke. I'd love to no the reason they are running a two car extra on a Sunday unless there are hot cars in Durand that need to go north bu...
