Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
The hearings for the proposed mergers for the GLOR are less than a week from happening. There is no additional news to report about the merger hearings or requests from opposing railroads and shippers. The Pontiac and Western suffered a significant washout in West Bloomfield Township which landlocke...

Re: Imlay City Northern (ICN)
GLOR management has posted 4 potential options to help with this situation. Which of the following 4 options would be best suited for the ICN and GLOR to work togethern 1) The first option is the GLOR buys out the ICN and assumes all operations of the ICN. This is not a desired option for the GLOR a...

Re: Pontiac & Western (PONW)
A major storm in August washed out a segment of the line near Woodpecker Lake Lookout. It took several weeks to repair it. In the meantime, customers to the west (including Home Depot and Zeeland Lumber) were serviced by an engine leased from Great Lakes Central (GLC) / Great Lakes and Ohio River (...

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
There is some new customer news on the GLOR. Litchfield used to be the location of a power generating station. That facility was decommissioned and torn down several years ago, and the branch has been sitting idle since. Recently a potential customer purchased an option on the property to build a ne...

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
Due to issues on the Imlay City Northern with a washout south of Cass City, GLOR has taken over running the northern portion of the stone traffic from Wallace Stone to Oxford. GLOR train BAS now picks the stone cars up at Wallace Stone and runs them to Reese where they are dropped onto the siding fo...

Re: Imlay City Northern (ICN)
GLOR management may be willing to work out something temporary to help ICN keep the stone traffic to Oxford. What would be in the best interest of both railroads?

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
I don't know if this has previously been mentioned, but GLOR has taken over operations (as of 1-1-24) on the Amtrak Michigan Line from the east end of Willow Run Yard to Ann Arbor. While currently there is only a single customer in Willow Run Yard, GLOR has several potential transload customers look...

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
One other operation the GLOR is gearing up for this year is the sugar beet harvest. There will be six different loading sites in use this fall, all of which will be served by the GLOR to transport beets to the plants. GLOR purchased the old sugar beet hoppers back from the ICN when the ICN purchased...

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
There is some additional news related to the Railroad's locomotive fleet. The GLOR, as well as its subsidiary lines, the NTTR, OWR, and soon to be ELSR, as well as the partially owned SSAC are all embarking on a project to support the regions the colleges and universities of the regions they serve. ...

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
There is a new potential customer inline for the GLOR, although the exact location is yet to be determined. Algoma Steel once operated a plant with Michigan Seemless Tube in Pellston, Michigan. Due to a downturn in the econpmy, this plant was closed which lead to the removal of the CP&P line to Pell...

Re: North Toledo Terminal Railroad
There is a slight change to the NTTR's operations. Previously NS had been providing rail service to Resource Reclmation Toledo, adjacent to NS's mainline and OmniSource. NTTR will now be the sole provider of switching servcies for both OmniSource and RRT. NTTR will also provide contact switching ser...

Re: Ohio Western Railroad
There have been some other changes on the Ohio Western Railroad since the line was purchased by the GLOR and subsequently spun off as the Ohio Western beyond the track improvements to bring the line to Class 2 standards across the entire line. The biggest has been the addition of a couple customers ...

Re: Ohio Western Railroad
The Ohio Western Railroad has been off to a successful start. Unlike previous ownership, when the railroad was known for having the worst tracks in America, the Ohio Western's owners, the Great Lakes and Ohio River poured millions of dollars on top of what previous owners put into the railroad. The ...

Re: Ex TSBY 1997 on the move
Maybe they should make 398 as the bumper, as the other units are worked on/ rebuilt/ returned to service. Just a thought. What is wrong with 398-- I know 397 has the bent frame, and probably is OOS permanently. 397's motor was traded to Peaker Services for 329's new motor a year or two ago. Thank y...

Re: Ex TSBY 1997 on the move
IF the rumor of 1977 being used as the Owosso Yard Switcher are true, it seems to signal a change in operations for the trains running on the south end, as it would appear that would indicate a crew would be dedicated to working Owosso and maybe helping with traffic either running to Durand for CN ...

Re: Ex TSBY 1997 on the move
My understanding is 398 blew its motor, so it may be done permanently or at least until a replacement motor can be installed. I don't know if that is correct. I would think they could swap out the motor from 397 into 398 if that was indeed the problem since all indications are 397 will be used as a ...

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
GLOR operations crews are looking at significant congestion issues on the Owosso to Toledo segment of the railroad. Currently the only locations available for trains to meet are 1) Milan Yard - Can be used for small trains meeting if not full of cars for interchange with NS 2) Urania Siding - Can be...

Re: Ex TSBY 1997 on the move
So-- if there is no engine in 392, it's technically NOT a locomotive then. So it seems that it's use as a BUMPER is more important than it's use as a loco--- if that's ALL it needs. Hopefully GLC GP35 #392 will come back to service someday! Now, "Heritage Units" added GLC GP35s #393 and 3...

Re: Great Lakes and Ohio River Railroad
Sort of. I do for the locomotive roster. I need to work on the organization of the railroads / lines / branches / interchanges / ect a little more.
A lot of time is going back through old posts to find the correct information.
