CSX DPU?

Is CSX running monster trains requiring DPU's across Michigan? The reason I ask is that tonight, on NB US-23 I witnessed a CSX train slowly crossing the bridge over US-23. east of Brighton. As I approached I saw CSX 3211 in the middle of some cars facing EB (The train was heading WB). I could not st...

Re: GLC GP38 incident

railroaders...guilty until proven innocent :) Not just railroads. Many businesses will railroad employees under the idea they are guilty until they prove their innocence. Sadly, most businesses who do this have much larger purse strings to fight the dismissal than the employees who they dismiss. Ev...

Re: GLC GP38 incident

The damage was such that the unit wasn't movable in the train and was setout. So you can be really sure the boss found out. What is said or not said here would have no bearing on that. I completely agree. I think any time equipment is damaged to the point of it becoming inoperable the boss is going...

Re: CSX Employee Fatally Injured in Fostoria.

Well, with out being too graphic, what really happened?? The impression I got was that he was riding a shove move and was impaled by tree branch which had fallen into the right of way. This caused fatal injuries. This impression is from discussions on other forums which discussed in incident and th...

Re: Grayling and Gaylord

I was in Wixom today doing some Christmas shopping. Was going to head down towards the yard on the long driveway off Wixom Rd, but as I turned onto the road, in the distance I saw what appeared to be a police car in the distance. I stopped and acted as if I was pulling off to use my phone. Sure enou...

Re: Grayling and Gaylord

I decided to look at Google Maps of Wixom. In the image they have, which I am unsure of the date, shows the transload area as non-operational. In the yard, who LSRC locomotives are at the south end, on the far westernmost track just north of Beck Rd. I think they are SD40-2's, but I am not certain o...

Re: GLC GP38 incident

I can't say what happened, but from what it looked like in the pictures I say they they hit something hard. From what I saw it did look like the frame was bent, so it will be interesting to see what they do. I would like to see the GP35's back in service, but I would if that is a stretch to see happ...

Grayling and Gaylord

So with the discussion of the energy place going in up in Gaylord, it got me wondering, what is the current customer list on the Bay City to Gaylord line?

Re: Great Lakes Central Passenger TC

I have previously stated my opinion on this. I don't think it will eve happen, and the 110 mph part will never happen. With that said, personally I would like to see an operation that would connect the Detroit / AA / Lansing areas to the TC region by rail. It would be more of a couple times per week...

Re: D&M 467

The best I can find is the tracks to Port Gibson were pulled in 1984, so the engine likely left the property or was scrapped in 1984.

Re: D&M 467

Thank you!! I am just curious as to the final disposition. Too bad she had to be separated from her sisters, and did not stay in Michigan. From what I can find, it was used by MP&L at Port Gibson, which is a nuclear power station. It likely was used during construction of the unit, which was comple...

AA Dundee to Milan

I was working in Dundee today, so I decided to take the long way home, via back roads up through Milan along the AA. I started by the engine plant. No cars on the spur to the plant, but the tracks looks somewhat shiny going across the road into the plant, something I don't recall from previous trips...

I asked on the Mississippi Railroads page, but haven't gotten any useful info. If it is still around (very doubtful), it would have been remote controlled.

Re: Great Lakes Central soft, white, fluffy stuff Equipment

Could be and end to the plow specials GLC runs during the hard winters. The new unit is a great upgrade for GLC. I think that clearing soft, white, fluffy stuff will become a more frequent event. I expect that the Russell plow will remain in service for clearing deep soft, white, fluffy stuff. The ...

Re: CN / GTW lines in Pontiac

Any issues of bills not being paid likely would have been resolved in GM's 2009 bankruptcy and reorganization into a new company. Yes and no. From a strictly financial standpoint, then yes, it would have taken care of the issue. From a CN perception standpoint, understanding what happened with GM t...

Re: you Must Be Criminals

In my opinion, a lot of this discussion boils down to one idea, civility. Will the officer (no matter what department) act in a civil manner to the person he is talking to about photographing trains, yards, equipment ect? Will the railfan act in a similarly civil manner when approached by an officer...

You must be Old Joey, Like Me. I too agree to a certain extent because I see a bias towards the 'company line'. I tend to be sympathetic to the LABOR side. I also think they have become too FOAMY. But then again they have the news and I read it and disseminate between the good, the bad and the ugly...

I hope I get arrested by the feds and thrown in jail while railfanning

That'll be a cool story
Cool story, less cool experience
I don't know. I think after the lawsuit that would be filed against the government for violating your rights, you might do ok.

Really dont wanna go to Cadillac to see the GP35s if i dont have to... unless someone says id be guaranteed to see like 3 trains or something...
