Re: Milford Jct. among finalists for large Ag facility
All spring and summer, i've watched the construction of the fertiizer/grain facility. For the first time on Monday, Sept.30, i noticed new spur track laid down parallel to the CSX main east/west. There's two gondolas, each with two switch track assemblies in them, parked on the ballast unloading spu...

Re: B&O St. Louis Line trailer train length
Pie39: Right now there are some excellant 89' or 85' TOFC flatcars availiable from Atlas, Trainworx and BLMA Models. Well detailed, precise painting and lettering, body-mounted knuckle couplers and metal wheels. I've got several of each brand; i'm building a C&O TOFC train to run on the C&O Chicago ...

Re: C&O TOFC
I've read here so far that C&O TOFC was tacked on the back of "name" passenger trains and mixed in on general freights. Were there any "pure" TOFC-only trains in either direction on C&O's mainlines in Michigan? Trainworx in N-Scale has annouced C&O 85' piggyback flatcars in six roadnumbers and 15 di...

Several years ago, a fellow railfan told me that BNSF stood for: Buy Norfolk Southern Fast. Now Zack says it's CSX and BNSF!!! Does make you wonder though if there will ever be a transcontnental railroad or two in this country. Berk

I'll be at Kalamazoo this Saturday with a table of N-Scale locos and freight cars. Also a few N-Scale custom-painted and lettered locos will be availiable. Maybe i'll meet you guys at the show! Berkmeister

Re: Butler Indiana train frequency
In regards to the N&W, the blue scheme with yellow lettering on locos didn't come out till 1966. This was in anticipation of N&W's merger with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. When N&W took over in 1964, black was still N&W's color scheme. NKP and Wabash diesels were re-painted into the black scheme...

There's a True Value Hardware store here in downtown Goshen, IN. that sells both HO and N-Scale trains at the front of the store just behind the front door right along Main St.!!! Berkmeisterbnsfben wrote:I've never seen an ACE Hardware sell trains. That's pretty neat!

Re: Milford Jct. among finalists for large Ag facility
All the cones, signs and barriers put up by the Kosciusko Co. Hwy. Dept. awhile back have been removed, new steel gates have been installed onto the yellow-painted steel posts that were put in back in Dec. Now the Old State Road 15 and C.R. 1350 North are permanently closed, bordered by County Line ...

Re: BIG work coming from Elkhart to Goshen on NS
I wish i had lived in the era of the tower and the diamonds there in East Goshen. At one time, the NYC, Big Four and the Pumpkin Vine branch from Middlebury had small yards next to each other south of East Lincoln Ave., east of Ninth St. and north of Logan St. Tiny yards they were, but there was lot...

Re: BIG work coming from Elkhart to Goshen on NS
Those abutments on the north side of the NS bridge have a single girder left in the center of the abutments. It's not an interurban line but the former Big Four mainline, which ran just north of the NYC Water Level Route starting on the north side of Goshen. This line stayed on the north, then the e...

Re: BIG work coming from Elkhart to Goshen on NS
Well Zack, that bridge over the Elkhart River used to hold 4 tracks; this section of the Water Level Route was a 4 track mainline from just outside the west side of Ligoner to South Bend. The inner two mains were for passenger trains and high-speed manifest freights. The outer two mains were for dra...

Later this spring, i'm planning on driving up to Leslie, MI. from Goshen, IN. to check out this store. They promote themselves as "Michigan's Largest N-Scale Dealer". Is it worth the trip? Once i walk inside, will i be like a kid in a candy store? Is it easy to find? Inquiring minds like mine want t...

Re: BIG work coming from Elkhart to Goshen on NS
 BEWARE!!! This could be an early April Fools joke! $40 million doesn't seem near enough for this project considering another bridge would have to be built for the third track over the Elkhart River in Goshen, all the extra third main track, crossovers, switches and new signaling. And eleva...

Re: Milford Jct. among finalists for large Ag facility
I noticed last Friday there were two large earth-movers and one big bulldozer parked in the field along County Line Road, which is along the north side of the facility property. Looks like construction will be beginning soon with spring coming up. Berkmeister

Re: Nappanee Train Show
IMHO, this is a buyers show. We have a variety of vendors in different scales and gauges. This year, we'll have the operating layouts interspersed among the vendors instead of having the layouts all in one room. Looking forward to it, a fun time for all! GAP: yes the showtime is the same as Michigan...

Re: Milford Jct. among finalists for large Ag facility
To my knowledge, there has been NO major opposition to this fertilizer/grain facility compared to the protesting of the ethanol plant several years ago. Not there isn't people complaining about this i'm sure. I read a couple women who live on C.R. 100 East concerned about property values, that's all...

Well, the elderly couple who lived in that moduler home on Old State Road 15 moved out after a public action was held in their front yard Saturday, January 19th, 2013. I drove by there, vehicles parked along the road and in the fields, hundreds of people there with furniture and appliances scattered...

Sunday afternoon, a friend and i were pacing a southbound NS freight on the Marion District south of New Paris on State Road 15.
