CSX apparently threw one of the new SD23T4’s on the front of a loaded coal train. Results are not known…but I’ve heard they’re absolute piles of garbage, so it probably didn’t go well.
It went fine, and they seem to be decent locomotives.

Re: Metra buying battery-powered trainsets

always get a laugh when people point out how reliable the brightline units are compared to the amtrak midwest units. not much cold and snow in florida. Always get a laugh when people think cold or snow factor that much into a properly maintained locomotive. I also get a laugh when people forget tha...

Re: Future of the Plymouth Sub/Grand Rapids Sub

I think something important to note is that CPKC hasn’t confirmed they want to purchase the Plymouth sub, I do think it is highly plausible but for right now the only reason they are mandating CSX to fix the Plymouth sub is so if they do buy it is in good condition. Sorry if someone already said th...

Re: Carleton, MI

I’d take fewer trains in a spot like Carleton full of history and endless potential photo angles than a busy few hours in another boring double track mainline location along the Water Level Route or B&O in Ohio any day! If you enjoy birdwatching with a train thrown in every couple of hours, it soun...

Good luck, Carleton is so incredibly dead that you’ll be looking at tracks and signals for hours.
That sounds like just about anywhere in Michigan when it comes to railroading.

Re: Plymouth & GR sub-div Work

Same with the dwarf on the GRE interchange up at Fuller. When I first started going up there in 1999ish, we called Tammy the Dispatcher one fine afternoon. She had no knowledge of that signal, wasn't on her board. From then on...fagetaboud it. We had permission to leave the switch open, do our work...

Thanks. Means a lot to those of us that spent a fair bit of time getting them cleaned up and lettered, with a small budget, mostly for the benefit of local buffs.

Re: Future of the Plymouth Sub/Grand Rapids Sub

[ My bet is CSX will take a page out of the NS Michigan Line playbook, and let the GR Sub go to seed once Consumers is done, until the state buys it for Amtrak service. It would be more financially responsible to reroute the Pere Marquette via Kalamazoo and terminate at Holland, and abandon the GR ...

They can build a new crossover at Porter (first pic) and then transfer to the Garrett sub at Portage
That would be the Barr sub.

as well as many, many other things one may not think about. Short sidings, crappy signal system, up and down profile, and little online buisness don't help. Add in the fact that CSX will no doubt would keep east of Plymouth, means the CP would not control either end of the railroad. https://media.t...

Brightline bought land south of the strip to use as their station. It is about 3 miles south of Mandalay Bay. No where near the Monorail, and will need some sort of ground transportation to get anywhere worth going. https://lasvegassun.com/news/2021/jul/06/brightline-land-las-vegas-high-speed-rail-s...

Re: Derailment in Springfield, OH Today.

In my opinion, the FRA needs to shut NS' operations down until they can make new safety practices that the FRA can agree upon, and if the regulator doesn't like it, nothing moves on that railroad until the regulator is satisfied. Here's why: NS at this point is a threat to public safety with all of...

Re: A new absolute signal on the holly sub...?

Those signals at Opdyke don't just come on when a train is a block or two away but are turned on by the dispatcher when he routes the train, Dispatchers don't "turn on" signals. They can do two things to absolute signals, they can code it to stop, or request a more favorable signal than stop. That ...
