by Raildudes dad » Wed Jun 01, 2016 7:28 pm 3049 was one of a pair at the DuPont Montague Works, No 1 and No 2. Both were red with white trim and built for Standard Oil. One left by rail, the second was landlocked when CSX pulled up the Montague branch. The C&M bought it when they sold their 50 ton ...

At one time the track to Heart Truss was a spur off the track that ran along the side of Spike St and crossing Grand River Ave to serve multiple tracks in the Michigan Sugar Co from 1901 to 1929. The Heart spur also served the John Deere place on Grand River into at least the late '60s. The building...

I've seen the gons in trains in Green Bay and Lansing, MI. Seems like the long way around to get to Sudbury.
How many of the gons are there?

The diamond was in place long after the CK&S was abandoned. Hastings Manufacturing north of the diamond and river was served off the MC line. The CK&S depot was in the southeast corner of the parking lot of the Feldpaush grocery store and, IFIRC, was their liquor store.

Re: New Hollow Yard, Lansing
The crossovers in the middle of the three tracks made the south two into four separate tracks. These crossovers went away when the new Hollow Yard was built 50 years ago so no evidence of them remains.

Re: New Hollow Yard, Lansing
Hollow Yard was there when I hired out in late '68 and was just the three tracks extending from Olds Ave to about where the current New Main and interchange switch are. New Hollow was built during the winter of '72-73 for Olds cars. At this time both Olds and Fisher were receiving 60 to 75 cars each...

Re: Southbound Moterm Signals on the Holly Sub
Speed signaling tells how fast you can go, route signaling tells you where you are going and you need to know what that entails. For example, on CR a red over green tells you you can pass the signal at Medium speed (30 mph) and resume track speed after your train clears that signal. On NS route sign...

This was the second highest draw behind, IIRC, the Civil War one. I'm told that the girl behind this event retired and that was the end of it. As to the SD80MAC, it almost didn't make it to the event. After setting out it's train at Wayne at night, the inexperienced crew, thinking they were on the m...

GTW Single Track Durand - Lansing
When was the GTW single tracked between Bancroft (mp 248.7) west of Durand and Okemos (mp 227.49)east of Lansing? I recall this being in the mid '90s with all the removed rail being piled up in the sw corner of I-96 and M-52. I recall there being an article by Don Phillips in Trains about this.

We had to qualify on any new territory or requalify if you hadn't work over the territory for a certain length of time. We would receive a Conductor/Pilot or Engineer/Pilot for a certain number of trips, five if I recall correctly. Same with the CSX crews on the MC side.

Re: Holly Diamond
I actually worked those trains a couple times and we ran through from Jackson to Flint. There were two turns in the pool, one CR and one CSX. And yes, we did use the SE Wye as the trains were short and it was much simpler than using the NW Wye as that would involve getting a route through both yards...

Re: Ionia Sub Q&A
When I worked as a block operator from '66 to '68, the Ionia Local out of Ensel would frequently have a load of Mustangs from the Metuchen, New Jersey, plant for Shelby conversions at the A. O. Smith plant in Ionia. I think this only lasted for about nine months. The Local was changed later to work ...
